Is it true that Ben & Jerry’s are coming out with cannabis-infused ice cream? The two co-founders of the delicious ice cream shop have confirmed that they would consider it.
Combine your pleasures
It’s quite possible that Ben & Jerry’s could bring a whole new meaning to “passing the bowl“. During an interview with HuffPost live, co-founder Ben Cohen commented on the idea “Makes sense to me. You know, combine your pleasures”. We couldn’t agree more, Ben! One thing is for certain, marijuana-infused ice cream would be one of their best yet. Combining ice cream with marijuana is pure genius.
Since the interview, the possibility of Ben & Jerry’s releasing the cannabis-infused ice cream has everyone talking. It’s no surprise, considering marijuana is one of the most popular topics these days. The plant is entering the mainstream world and it only makes sense for companies, like Ben & Jerry’s, to make it a part of their business in their own way. Co-founder Jerry Greenfield mentioned that the two have some experience with the substance. The company has supported marijuana culture through their ice cream
The company has supported marijuana culture through their ice cream flavors, such as Satisfy My Bowl. This flavor was created in order to honor the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley’s album Legend back in 2014. The ice cream includes a creamy banana base with caramel, cookie swirls and milk chocolate peace signs. On top of that, all earnings benefit the Marley Family 1LoveFoundation. However, unless you’re a resident of the UK, you won’t be able to get your hands on this special flavor.
So, what’s the plan?
People from all across the nation are having a change of heart when it comes to marijuana. Four states have legalized recreational use and it’s quickly becoming more mainstream than it was in the past. A CNN/ORC poll done in January of 2014 found that 55% of Americans were in favor of legalizing marijuana. That percentage is substantially higher than in the past. CNN reported that only 16% were in favor in 1987, what an increase! Foods that contain marijuana, known as edibles, are one of the most popular pot products on the market in the legalized state of Colorado, according to the Denver Post. With all things mentioned, will Ben & Jerry’s be releasing the cannabis-infused ice cream anytime soon?
“If it were my decision, I’d be doing it”
A spokeswoman for Ben and Jerry’s told AdWeek magazine that at the moment, there aren’t any plans to create cannabis-infused ice cream, but the company is open to the idea. Jerry Greenfield told HuffPost Live that if it were his decision, he’d be doing it. He also mentioned that fortunately, they have wise heads at the company to figure those things out. It turns out that Ben and Jerry no longer own the company. In 2000, they sold the business to Unilever Inc. for a whopping amount of $326 million.
It looks like we won’t be pulling out the ice cream scooper anytime soon, at least not for marijuana-infused ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s. The spokeswoman, Kelly Mohr, told AdWeek that Ben & Jerry’s has not given serious consideration to the possibility of cannabis-infused ice cream just yet. Though they aren’t currently considering it, they do believe that perhaps it’s “high time”.
So, for now, we shall have to cross our fingers and toes that Ben & Jerry’s soon releases cannabis-infused ice cream. What better way to satisfy your munchies and still get a good high? Here’s to hoping!
