Originating in Northern California, Astronomy Day has been celebrated on May 14th since 1973. The President of the local Astronomical Society, Doug Berger, set up telescopes in various urban areas, so any passerby could appreciate a view of the stars. His hope was to help others gain interest in learning about space and the universe. His efforts paid off, as the day is now celebrated across the United States.
Astronomy Day is the kickoff to an entire week that has been nationally dedicated to education and exploration of the workings of the cosmos. Some of the space exploration stories and theories can be pretty far-out and mind boggling. Just like the confusing information coming from the sky, these galactic-inspired strains will leave you in awe, thinking maybe, just maybe, if buds like this exist, aliens could, too.
This crystal-covered strain won second place in the Sativa category at the 2012 Seattle High Times Cannabis Cup. When rolled into a joint, each fruity hit is more intense than the last, as terpenes collected and deliver a powerful high. Unfortunately, Supernatural is as mysterious as black holes and has become increasingly hard to find.
Due to the buds short, fuzzy appearance, with darker colored flowers and noticeably red hairs, creators believed it resemble the cute and cuddly characters from the Star Wars series, Ewoks. A 60/40 Indica dominant hybrid, Ewok is known for its ability to reduce inflammation and muscle spasms.
3. Space Queen
Every domain must have a ruler, and this beautiful bud is a serious contender for the head spot. Another Indica-dominant hybrid, Space Queen has been noted for delivering an unbelievable high while also helping to reduce and control anxiety.
Named after the alien race in Star Trek, Romulan is an indica strain, with a strong pine scent and heavy, full-body high. Romulan is used to treat many different medical conditions because of its powerfully relaxing, sedation-like effects.
5. Skywalker OG
Another Star Wars-inspired strain delivers relief to insomnia patients and sufferers of chronic pain. Skywalker OG is a strong indica, known for inducing sleep, even in those who are often restless. The high THC content in this herb also means a long-lasting high, if sleep is somehow averted.
With a name that means “star cloud,” and an exterior that twinkles with THC, the Nebula strain is certainly out of this world. These glistening hybrid-buds deliver a full head and body buzz and are said to induce a psychedelic-like high. They also taste and smell like honey, making this a perfect strain all the way around.
7. Apollo 13
As resilient as the astronauts aboard that nearly disastrous space mission, the Apollo 13 cannabis strain is a punchy Sativa, often recommend for new, less experienced growers. The plant grows fairly quickly, taking just seven to eight weeks to bud, with a high that’s sure to leave users’ heads in the clouds.
