What is the difference between a paltry patty and an epic cannaburger? Well, a lot actually. Making a great burger is not easy. Take one look at fast food and you know that there is a pretty big margin for error. If you are going to put your herb into a burger, you don’t want it to be like lipstick on a pig. THC deserves to be fully enjoyed, and a burger you wouldn’t enjoy without won’t make a gourmet meal with ganja. Here are 10 ways to make the best canna-burger of your life.
1. Start off simple
Too many people think that you have to add extras to meat in order to make a patty that holds together. The truth is, all those added breadcrumbs and eggs ruin a good burger, nothing else is needed. Seasoning is the same. Never be afraid to dust away with salt and pepper, it brings out the flavor of the beef. But leave those complex rubs for your barbecue, they only mask the natural flavor. Keep it simple, and your patty will be better than most restaurants.
2. Make it mean, not lean
The key to quality burger meat is the juiciness, and that means fat. The reason many people feel the need to add stickiness to their meat is because they buy it too lean in the first place. You’re already eating a burger, don’t back peddle now. Even veggie burgers are fried. Stay away from the ground beef in a tube. Go to the butcher and as for some quality chuck, with a little extra fat mixed in. A dry burger is a bad burger.
3. Step away from the oil
This isn’t a Greek salad. Put the oil down. All you need to cook a high-quality hamburger is a good pan and a spatula. That being said, if you add oil to keep meat from sticking, maybe you need a new frying pan. Get your pan up to a high heat before putting the meat on, and flip regularly to keep it from sticking or burning.
4. Grill it, don’t kill it
We all have our personal preference. but many say the best burgers are medium-rare . This isn’t beef jerky. You want it to be moist and delicious. The best way to do this is by flipping frequently. Sear in the juices, but don’t let it get too firm. You want a semi-firm burger with some “squish” left in the middle. Check it with a thermometer if you need practice, but as long as it is at 160°F inside, it is safely cooked.
5. Buns are bread, not bricks
Even a great burger can suffer when the bun is hard and goes down like a brick. The bun isn’t just a meat holder, it is a medium for soaking up the juices of the meat and cheese, it needs to be light and airy. Forget the pre-packaged sesame buns on the shelf and head over to the bakery.
6. Toasty treat
With a soft, airy bun you don’t want your burger to disintegrate in your hands. The key to great eating experience is a relatively clean one. Toast your buns. It will stand up to the juice better, and keep you from eating a pile of meat off your plate. Using lettuce to insulate the bottom bun only leaves a juice puddle somewhere in there that will most likely end up on your shirt.
7. Going veg? Do it right
If you love veggie burgers, then do it right. Mushroom burgers aren’t worth the time t be called burgers. Tofu can absorb any flavor and has a delicious texture when fried up. Bean or tofu-based burgers are the best.
8. Time for some TLC with THC
Now that you have the basics for a great burger, it is time to put the “canna” in that cannaburger! What’s great is you can add THC in so many different ways.
