When it comes to the cannabis business, everyone wants in, especially celebrities. From Snoop Dogg’s Leafs by Snoop to Whoopi Goldberg’s Whoopi & Maya, stars are diving right into the industry. As a matter of fact, Melissa Etheridge is now joining in with her line of cannabis products. Her company, Etheridge Farms, will provide these products to medical patients.

Focusing on health and wellness

In 2004, rockstar Melissa Etheridge was diagnosed with cancer. However, she remains cancer-free twelve years later, and she has marijuana to thank. With that said, it’s not at all shocking that she wants people to understand that the plant is medicine.

I’m right in the process of branding. There’s a balm that’s so good for muscles and arthritis. I have my own smoke, some edibles and some [oil] cartridges. I’m really just entering the market with what I’ve learned in the last 10 years about cannabis in wanting to bring a product to America that is focused on health and on wellness and how important this plant is and used to be in our medicinal system.

Seventy years ago it was on pharmacy shelves, now it’s time to get back to that; to understand plant medicine. That’s really where I want to enter this market in – is for the person who is looking to unwind at night and not have a couple of drinks and feel like crap in the morning.

Maybe this is an alternative, maybe I can wind down this way. And wow, maybe this topical actually helps with this inflammation. I just feel really strongly about the medicinal aspects of cannabis.

Etheridge believes that anyone who uses cannabis is using it for medicinal purposes, even if they may not see it that way. In fact, the star says that cannabis helped manage her stress when she was dealing with cancer. In addition, it helped keep a balance in her life. With this in mind, she strongly believes her Etheridge Farms products can help.

These are sun-grown California products. I want to really focus my products on wellness and on the medicinal part. Some people may not want to go into a dispensary for a Snoop Dogg [strain] — nothing against Wiz Khalifa and all those beautiful people — that’s not what they’re looking for. They’re looking for medicinal relief.

I want them to know this is the brand that they can trust, that there’s scientific research behind it and really bring this to the medical community.

Using music to connect with cannabis users

In addition to her canna-business, Etheridge is working on releasing her 14th studio album, Memphis Rock and Soul, due for release on October 7th. The album is a tribute to what is now known as Stax Records, and is, in fact, being released on the Stax label.

It’s a reimagining of some great Otis Redding tunes. I went down to Memphis and recorded it. I loved that so much. I’m looking forward to doing some shows.

Apparently, the rockstar wants to broaden her appeal. As a matter of fact, she recently did a freestyle with rapper Action Bronson on his Viceland show Action Bronson Watches Ancient Aliens. In like manner, she has worked with Cypress Hill’s B-Real. However, it’s cannabis that led her to the hip-hop community. Her goal is to cross all

However, it’s cannabis that led her to the hip-hop community. Her goal is to cross all cultural boundaries by connecting with all sorts of people that use the plant. Being that the hip-hop game has always been a large cannabis community, it’s the perfect place to do just that.

Better late than never

Melissa Etheridge didn’t join the cannabis community until later on in life. In fact, she didn’t begin using until the age of 43.

It wasn’t until the ’80s when I would do it socially, only if someone else had it. I did not seek it out for myself until I was actually diagnosed in 2004. That was when I really started looking at it. The first time I started doing it every day was for medicinal purposes.

Growing up, she often watched football with her father. Not only is she obsessed with the sport, but she appreciates it and believes it’s a wonderful contribution to our society. In fact, the star just so happens to be moderating the sports panel “CTE, Concussion, and CBD” on September 8th at the Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition in Los Angeles.

According to Etheridge, cannabis is a viable alternative for football players. However, players are forced to do it illegally to avoid becoming addicted to opiates. In fact, the NFL won’t even so much as consider letting players use simply because it’s illegal on a federal level.

Nevertheless, Etheridge is doing her part to help by releasing her own cannabis product. She hopes that it will launch by the end of the year in Oakland, San Jose, and Santa Cruz dispensaries.

Will you be purchasing Melissa Etheridge’s product? What other stars do you think will join the cannabis community next? Share with us on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below. We would love to hear from you.

I am a free spirit located in a small college town. Most of the time I am busy working towards my degree in Healthcare Management. During my spare time, I enjoy writing, reading, shopping, music and board games. Most of all, I like Cannabis. I am a firm believer in Cannabis and the good it does for people. Marijuana is my motivator, my medicine for when I'm sick, and my most favored pick-me-up. Meeting and connecting with other Cannabis lovers is a passion of mine. It's a nice feeling to know that so many people feel the same way I do on the subject.
