Music helps to set the mood for any situation. We all have our perfect playlist for working out, cooking, creating, and now, smoking. If you’ve been looking for the best songs to listen to during a session, look no further. While some of these artists might be unheard of by the younger listeners, do yourself a favor and become familiarized with hip-hop history. Otherwise, you’ll be missing out on some of the most iconic cannabis anthems to ever hit the airwaves. These 15 rap songs are exactly what you need to get in the mood to indulge in a little cannabis, as if encouragement is ever needed.
1. “The Next Episode” by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg
This old school rap is the perfect anthem to kick off this list. Not only does it embody the use of cannabis in nearly every line, Snoop Dogg is the king of cannabis, so who else would we look to for the perfect smoking song?
Accompanied by Dr. Dre, “The Next Episode” is just one of those songs everyone seems to know, despite age or generational gaps.
2. “How High” by Method Man
A bit more on the raunchy side, when it comes to cannabis tunes, but with lines like “It’s the funk doctor spock smoking Buddha on a train,” how could we not include this track on our list?
Somehow, the old school artists just seem to incorporate cannabis use in a much more creative way than many of today’s mainstream artists.
3. “Young, Wild & Free” by Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa
A few years ago, you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing this song blaring from the speakers. Everyone know so the catchy course that starts off with, “So what we get drunk? So what we smoke weed? We’re just having fun and we don’t care who sees.”
This literally became the anthem of my generation, who were sick and tired of people looking down on us for our partying ways. Because we all know when you’re young, there’s nothing more important than being wild and free.
4. “Hit From The Bong” by Cypress Hill
Taking it way back to the days of Cypress Hill, some of the younger listeners might not even be aware of this iconic cannabis band, but they should be.
If you’ve never heard their weed-smoking tracks, I suggest you start with this one.
5. “I Got 5 On It” by Luniz and Michael Marshall
Another classic cannabis song that everyone needs to know. “I Got 5 On It,” is the answer to those friends who are always looking to smoke, but never looking to throw down.
The next time they’re snaking around to get in your stash, send them the lyrics to this song to help them get the message loud and clear about their need to throw in a blunt.
6. “Blaze It” by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Bone Thugs is just one of those bands every self-respecting cannabis consumer needs to listen to.
Even if you’re not enjoying a smoke session, their music is some of the most iconic in hip hop history. “Blaze It,” is the perfect song to add to your cannabis playlist.
7. “Pussy, Money, Weed” by Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne is a master of all things rap, so this song appearing on the list should come as no surprise to his faithful followers. “Pussy, Money, Weed,” is a listing of all the things Wayne loves, and in that order, too.
When I was in high school, you weren’t cool unless you listened to this song at least 15 times a day. I still get chills when I hear the all-too-familiar interlude.
8. “Weed Song” by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
I told you Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was one of the most influential cannabis groups of their time.
It’s no wonder they’re making multiple appearances on our list of top rap smoking tracks. With a title like “Weed Song” the content should be pretty self-explanatory.
9. “Marijuana” by Kid Cudi
Kid Cudi has been taking over the airways for the past few years with his real-talk lyrics and hard hitting beats.
“Marijuana” is a great, catchy tune that embodies the emotions many of us feel while enjoying a nice, relaxing high.
10. “PMW” by A$AP Rocky
Okay, so it would seem these lyrics are little bit ripped off from Lil Wayne’s “Pussy, Money, Weed,” however, maybe A$AP Rocky just loves the same things.
While the track is a great smoking anthem, I do wish he could have been a little more creative with the chorus, even using the same type of chopped and screwed sounds featured on Wayne’s track. That’s okay, Rocky, we still love you anyway.
11. “Blueberry Yum Yum” By Ludacris
If you’re smoking on some good-good, you need to bump this song. There has never been a more accurate way of expressing how high-quality cannabis can make us feel.
Ludacris is just one of those rappers who keeps it real and never falters on offering his own unique perspective on a situation, including getting high.
12. “I’m High” by T-Pain
Ahh, T-Pain, there’s just something about his voice that gets you in the mood to get up and dance, or in this case, sit down and smoke. “I’m High” is my personal favorite cannabis-consuming song that never goes out of style, even if it’s nearly 10 years old. Do yourselves a favor and listen to this motivational track.
13. “Weed Got Me Crazy” By Tupac
Of course, we can’t leave hip-hop royalty, Tupac, off our list. Before his passing, Tupac was a huge advocate for cannabis legalization and indulged frequently. He loved to blaze up before a session and has even said it helped to enhance his creative flow.
Tupac might have been a cold-hearted beast in the studio, but he definitely had a softer side when it came to the things he loved and felt passionate about.
14. “Because I Got High” by Afro Man
Who doesn’t know this song? I swear, you must live under a rock if you’ve never heard someone sing this line in reference to forgetting to do something.
While it might not paint cannabis users in the best light, “Because I Got High” is one of those fun-timey songs we all over to sing along to. “I was gonna clean my room, but then I got high…la da da da da…”
15. “Pass Me The Dutch” By Young Money
For those of us who are always messing up the rotation, this song helps us remember to pass to the left.
Young Money has had some fantastic cannabis songs, but this one definitely has to be my favorite. Anything that helps me remember whose hit it is next is good in my book.
