No one likes being drug tested. For whatever the reason, it is an invasion of privacy and can be a major hassle. Unfortunately, there are no sure-fire ways to pass any sort of drug test. At a certain point, you can merely try your best and keep your fingers crossed. However, there are a few tricks and hacks that people use to increase their odds. Here’s how to pass a blood test for cannabis.
How to pass a blood test
Everyone processes drugs and substances like cannabis differently. Most people should be able to pass a blood test within one day to a week, depending on how much cannabis was consumed. In heavier consumers, the process can take as long as two weeks.
The active compounds in cannabis do not hang around in the blood very long, but the cannabinoids can be re-released into the bloodstream over time, making heavier consumers more susceptible to failure.
If you find yourself facing a blood test, there are a few things you may one to do prior to the event. These include:
- Stop smoking cannabis, preferably for one week (two weeks for heavy consumers, to be conservative)
- Get a considerable amount of exercise before a test
- Spend some time relaxing in a sauna or steam room
- Increase your dietary fiber (prunes, dark leafy greens, psyllium husks, etc.)
- Eat a healthy, nutrient-dense diet that includes plenty of vitamin and mineral rich fruits and veggies
- Stay hydrated, drink a considerable amount of water, pee a lot
Can I use a detox drink to pass a blood test?
Detox drinks are the primary ways that people pass blood tests. In a way, detox drinks are basically just powerful diuretics and laxatives. Their goal is to make all of the drugs and toxins leave the digestive system quickly through urine and bowel movements.
These beverages cannot be detected in a drug test, as the products are simply powerful concentrations of herbal therapies that could be a part of a regular diet.
However, it’s extremely important to be mindful of what products you’re putting into your body and how to use them correctly. Always opt for products that contain safe, natural, and recognizable ingredients like herbs, vitamins, and minerals.
Common detox ingredients include:
- B vitamins
- Milk thistle
The most trusted product on the market today is Clear Choice Rescue Cleanse. A general rule of thumb is, light consumers are expected to have good success after one week. Heavier consumers may consume detox drinks or tabs for up to two weeks prior to a test, depending on product directions.
Using fruit pectin to pass a drug test
Many people also try the fruit pectin method to detox blood or urine the day of a drug test. Fruit pectin is a naturally occurring dietary fiber, which means that it is safe to consume. It is a natural fiber found in fruits like apples that has been isolated and is commonly used as a thickener for jams and jellies.
Certo and Sure-Jell are two common types of fruit pectin, and most grocery stores carry some type of fruit pectin in their baking or canning aisles. Incidentally, many people use this common fiber to pass drug tests. This method is often called the “Certo” or “Sure-Jell” method.
The recipe is as follows:
- 1 packet of fruit pectin
- 32 ounces of Gatorade, Pedialyte, or another electrolyte drink
- 1 gallon (approx. 4 liters) of water
Simply mix the fruit pectin and your chosen beverage together and drink up. Those taking a urine test will want to follow this up with one full gallon of water prior to submitting a sample.
Taking B vitamin is also something to consider, as it adds coloration to the urine. After drinking so much water, the urine will be diluted and clear.
This method is most commonly used about three hours before a blood test. Those hoping to avoid detox drinks may want to try this a couple of times in the week leading up to the big day. However, it’s important to be mindful of how your body reacts to the fiber. That’s where detox drinks come in!
Why does fruit pectin work?
The theory for this is that the fruit pectin makes you poop out the THC inside your system. In the intestinal tract, pectin binds to bile. Bile is an acidic substance that is used to break down foods.
This bile also binds with fats (lipids) like the primary psychoactive in cannabis, THC. Typically, this bile helps the body absorb THC by making it easier to absorb in water.
Normally, lipids like cannabis molecules are not water soluble. Bile helps the body absorb lipids and fat-soluble molecules, which then pass through in urine after metabolism.
Research has shown that fruit pectin can have a hypolipidemic effect, which means that it reduces the amount of fat found in blood serum.
Yet, while there may be less fat in the blood, there is more fat in stools. When fruit pectin binds to the bile, cannabis fats can no longer be absorbed through the digestive tract, metabolized, and excreted into the urine. Rather, THC comes out in your poop. The high fiber in the pectin also makes you poop more often.
The success of this method may vary depending on how the cannabis was consumed, how frequently, how much. However, many recommend this method for the day of the drug test, regardless of how much you consumed.
However, as a word of precaution, there is no reliable data on how many people find success with this method, and heavy consumers are likely to need something a bit stronger, especially if they are in a hurry.
