A Colorado town has found a unique way to cash in on the Green Rush – opening what is believed to be the state’s first cannabis drive-thru.
The board of trustees of the town of Parachute, Colorado, voted last week to approve the creation of the cannabis drive-thru, which is to be built from the remains of a former car wash located across the street from the dispensary’s primary store, the Tumbleweed Dispensary.
The Tumbleweed Express Drive-Thru appears to have cleared the bureaucratic hurdles that may have complicated its creation.
Specifically, a spokesperson for the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division signed off on the establishment, saying that agency determined the drive-thru would meet the rules and requirements of the state’s new cannabis businesses.
As far as I can tell we are not aware of this business model ever coming up before… It will have to follow all the rules and regulations that apply to every dispensary.
While the idea of the Parachute drive-thru would be likable regardless of the circumstances, the town’s worrisome financial situation makes its construction all the more attractive.
According to Mayor Roy McClung, the town would be in serious financial straits were it not for the legalization statewide of recreational cannabis. He went on to praise the creation of the new business.
We think the drive-through is a very creative and innovative idea.
That point of view was echoed by Town Manager Stuart McArthur, who said that almost 30 percent of the town’s sales tax intake – $310,000 out of $1.05 million – was attributable to the sales of cannabis.
The really good news is that the other businesses are benefiting from it.
