You would think because weed is already legal in a number of states and countries, law enforcement would start to back off. But unfortunately, that’s just not the case. Getting busted with a tiny bit of pot can get you in more trouble than you may think. In fact, depending on where you live, cops will throw you in jail for a couple of grams of bud. Unless you’ve been there, it’s hard to imagine how quickly a weed charge can ruin someone’s life. From making it impossible to land a job to losing your license, here are five things you’ll understand if you’ve been caught with weed.
1. Having to take that miserable drug class
If you’ve been caught with pot, then you’ve more than likely had to take some sort of drug education class. It’s typically only once a week but is still the absolute worst.
In addition to taking random drug tests, you also have to listen to someone tell you how bad drugs are for an entire hour. The class is supposed to encourage you not to smoke weed. But by the time it’s over, you desperately need to smoke a joint, or ten.
2. Spending months upon months looking for a job
People will tell you that no one cares about a weed charge. But unless you have one on your record, you have no idea how hard it can be to land a job. In fact, there are a few places that refuse to hire someone with a pot charge. For this reason, it can take months and even years for an offender to find a job.
3. The embarrassment of having to take a drug test while someone watches
After getting caught with weed, you are typically required to take a few pee tests. And to make matters worse, someone has to stand there and monitor you while you do it. That’s right; a pot charge even takes away your right to pee in peace.
4. That feeling when it comes time to hand over your license
Regardless if you are caught with weed in your vehicle or not, most states will suspend your license. It can take anywhere from six months to a year to get it back, sometimes longer.
A lot of people depend on their vehicles to get them to and from where they need to be. So when you are forced to find other means of transportation, there’s no worse feeling. All over a harmless plant. It doesn’t get much more ridiculous than that.
5. The horror of having your things searched
That moment when the cops start rummaging through your stuff in search of your precious buds. Words cannot describe the feeling you have when you know you’re about to be busted and have your stash taken away from you.
