This is great news!

A study by the University of Texas reports that since 2002, teens ages 12 to 17 are about 25% less likely to consume cannabis. One quarter — that is a substantial reduction!

These results suggest decriminalization, and even recreational legalization of cannabis, is deterring teens, perhaps dulling the sensationalism of a prohibited drug. If everyone is doing it, what’s the big deal?

This news isn’t incredibly surprising, given another report that found legalization has not increased underage consumption. However, a statistical decrease in teen marijuana use is even more influential, and particularly timely given its current buzz in the media.
