New York City is an incredible and sometimes overwhelming place, especially when you’re stoned. Whether you’re looking to take it all in, or escape from the madness, here are 5 things you must do when stoned in New York City.

1. Relax at Coney Island

There’s something deeply nostalgic and funky about Coney Island. With a newly revamped amusement park, a bustling boardwalk, and a gorgeous city beach, the iconic destination is a perfect place to people watch while getting baked in the sunshine. Beyond the overall energy of the place, Coney Island is filled with excellent street food.

To satisfy your munchies, Nathan’s flagship hot dog shop stands on the corner of Stillwell and Surf Ave, where you can grab a chili dog, a large lemonade, and play a couple rounds of foosball at the nearby arcades. You could also grab a pizza at landmark joint, Totonno Pizzeria Napolitana, or stick to the boardwalk and eat some fried seafood at Ruby’s Bar & Grill. All in all, a pretty perfect day. Coney Island is one of the things you must do when stoned in New York City.

Price: Almost all subways end at Coney Island so whether you’re in midtown, Brooklyn, or Queens, you can get there in under an hour, and it will only cost you $2.75.

2. Sweat it Out at Brooklyn Banya

With two saunas, a steam room, a cold pool, and a piping hot jacuzzi, Brooklyn Banya is a perfect place to spend a hungover Sunday with your friends. Casual, funky, and ultimately very Russian, this special spot is super relaxing and fun. With easy going staff and an eclectic clientele, I’d recommend lighting up a joint on the rooftop patio, and then chilling out in the steam room. The spot is also BYOB, and serves delicious perogies and borscht. If you want to kick it up a notch, get a massage from a kooky little Russian lady for an additional $45.

Price: Entrance is $35 dollars, but you can (and will) stay all day.

3. Eat and Chill in Chinatown

Find yourself high and hungry in Chinatown? Eat some Dim Sum! For exceptional dumplings, a wide array of teas, and a kitsch, cool atmosphere, check out Nom Wah Tea Parlor. It’s cheap, delicious, laid back, and pretty much perfect for being a tad toasted. After you’ve walked off your pork buns the only thing you should be doing is getting a cheap foot massage.

All over Chinatown you can get a 1 hour foot or full body massage for $30-$40 that will leave you feeling incredibly refreshed. I’d recommend Fishion Herb Centre, Zuyuan, or Canal Body Works, but check Yelp for other good options.

4. Scope the Views From the Staten Island Ferry

Want to experience the gorgeous skyline of New York City without paying top tourist dollar? Eat an edible, board the Staten island ferry and party with the local commuters. After disembarking you can explore the “forgotten burrow”, or simply re-board and head straight back to Manhattan. I’d recommend the latter.

Price: Under $10 return.

5. Get Back to Nature at the New York Botanical Gardens

Frolic across the expansive botanical gardens to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and get back to nature. With 50 diverse gardens, 30,000 trees, and a landmark glasshouse with a rain forest and cactus display, you can eat an edible and easily get lost in the plant life. Get there before November 1st to see “Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life” exhibit. After catching up on your flare and fauna, head over to the Bronx’s “Little Italy” on Arthur Avenue and pick up a chicken parmesan sandwich at Tino’s Delicatessen.

Price: Tickets range from $20-$25.
