Just three short years ago, Jane West worked as a mid-level corporate manager, a mother to two children as well as a housewife. Today, however, she is busy building a successful empire in the cannabis industry. On top of that, she’s giving women the confidence to use and enjoy cannabis.

Her success has led her to be named “Most Influential People in Cannabis” by the International Business Times. She’s  also been seen in Fortune Magazine, Newsweek and Fast Company. Jane West means business, her prosperity proves it.

When it comes to cannabis, Jane West is a true leader in the industry and more. So, how did she climb to the top? Back in November of 2014, Jane West Enterprises launched Edible Events Company in Denver, Colorado. She also appeared in CNBC’s “Marijuana in America” documentary, while running her “end of prohibition” cannabis-approved event.

However, this is not what crowned her queen of legal cannabis entrepreneurs. What really pushed her in the right direction was when she was fired for smoking pot from a vaporizer. Her face was on front page news, she was without a job, but she also gained a new platform. Today, her platform continues to grow.

Not long after West was let go from television, she raised $42K in seed money from 14 cannabis businesswomen and founded Women Grow in Denver, Colorado. In August of 2016, the very first Grow chapter meeting took place.

Every month, thousands of women from all over gather together at the meetings. Currently, there are 44 cities that Women Grow chapters are located. On top of that, 21,000 people are subscribed to their newsletter and close to 42,000 people follow them on Instagram.

West’s heart and soul belongs to connecting, educating and empowering female entrepreneurs. She believes that the female market is the future. She couldn’t be more right when she said:

“We want products for us, designed by us.”

Hopes and expectations for the future

Just how big is the business opportunity for female entrepreneurs? Very, very big. A recent report by Forbes estimated that sales for medical marijuana in the U.S. are going to be $1.9 billion this year. It also estimates $600-$700 million to be sold for recreational use. The Factbook Projects estimates that the legal cannabis business will see about $8 billion in revenue.

These numbers are what attracts entrepreneurs and investors, can you blame them? Now that cannabis is legalized in 23 of 50 states, the future is looking bright for cannabis and those looking to enter the industry. The industry provides a way to get paid the big bucks while encouraging legalization and acceptance of cannabis.

West and her colleagues want to see more women enter the ever-flourishing industry as founders. She says “We hope women come into the market and start their own businesses”. She also believes that “successful business come from successful relationships”, and it’s proven to be effective.

“I identified quickly that there is no patriarchy in this nascent industry and I saw the opportunity to make cannabis the most inclusive, diverse sector of the American economy.”
