Apparently America’s favorite ‘high’-performance athlete is taking his exercise secrets and sharing them with the world. Michael Phelps has made the US Olympic team for the fifth time. In preparation for Rio, and putting some more medals around his neck, he has released a new exercise book and DVD, revealing how cannabis helps him become a champion.

When I have a need for speed, I turn to weed. (Giggling.) In fact, I’m high right now and rhymes make me giggle.

One of the chapters in his workout secrets is called “If You Take a Hit, You Won’t Quit.”

You have a friend or coach place donuts or potato chips at each end of the pool. You then take a giant bong hit. Trust me, the munchies will do the rest.

And, guys, let me tell you, I can’t guarantee ‘Bong-ercise’ will make you more virile. I can’t tell you how times I’ve been asked ‘is that a bong in your Speedos, or, are you just glad to see me?

Stronger for longer

Phelps believes that cannabis has been a key component of his peak athletic condition for so many years.

The only joint pain I have is when I don’t have a joint.

He went on to tease reporters with a potential change of style for his upcoming meets.

So, dudes, what do you think about me swimming in dreadlocks?

Is a word of this true? Doubtful. Phelps may certainly enjoy his herb as it opens his lungs, helps his muscles recover, and lets him push his limits. But this story was originally published by Paul Lander in the Huffington Post comedy section.

The idea of cannabis as an exercise enhancer is sounder than you think. In recent news, former NFL running back Ricky Williams is co-founding the world’s first pro-cannabis gym. High profile athletes including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Diaz, and scores of professional athletes in every field have used the plant either to enhance workouts or recover from them.
