Originally published by Illegally Healed, this interview shares the story of 16-year-old Coltyn Turner. Coltyn is a Crohn’s patient who has successfully put his disease into remission with cannabis. His story is nothing short of amazing and is worth eight minutes of your time. Without further ado, here’s how Coltyn healed his Crohn’s Disease with cannabis.
As fate would have it
Coltyn Turner was 11 years old when he was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. The disease began after a terrifying incident at Boy Scout Camp one summer. Coltyn nearly drowned in a lake. Afterward, bacteria in the water triggered a dormant Crohn’s reaction.
The fated day would ultimately leave him in a wheelchair and close to developing blood cancer. Coltyn explains,
I just got sicker and sicker, I wasn’t getting any better. Pharmacutical after pharmacutical was placed, and none of them worked. Like Humira, which actually gave me a T-Cell lymphoma scare. It took about 2 to 3 years before we stopped all pharmacuitcal medications because the last one was Humira, and if I took another pharmacutical it would have increased my chances of developing T-Cell lymphoma by 66%.
Finding cannabis for Crohn’s
After so much trouble with Humira, Coltyn made the bold decision to stop taking pharmaceutical medications. But, when medications don’t work, what other options are available? Coltyn and his family stumbled upon an Israeli observational study that found that 10 of 11 Crohn’s patients found relief with cannabis.
That was enough to convince him to try the herb. He states,
At the time I didn’t know what cannabis really was. All I knew was that it was bad and I should just stay away from it. But, when my dad said, ‘Hey, we’re going to go try cannabis’, really my only concern was what are the side effects. The only side effect was that it may not work. So, we really didn’t have much to lose.
In full remission
Coltyn and his father traveled from Illinois to Colorado to access medical cannabis. He began with edible brownies and has since worked up to medical cannabis oil, which is a more effective treatment for his condition. The great news? Coltyn is #IllegallyHealed.
I have been on cannabis for two and a half years, and I can now officially say that I am in clinical remission.
Now, Coltyn has opened his home to others seeking information about cannabis treatment. He also shares his story online via Illegally Healed and is active on social media. Since coming out with his story, many patients have reached out to Coltyn to learn more about how to use cannabis as medicine.
Thanks to cannabis, Coltyn is thriving and has transformed from patient to advocate, helping others across the country and around the world discover the healing powers of cannabis. There’s no doubt about it, this is one amazing teen.
