For years and years, The Simpsons has provided the world with lots of laughs. In fact, the show is one of the longest running sitcoms on television. In the past, guests like Tupac and Donald Trump have appeared in episodes. During the new year, however, there are three well-known hip-hop figures that will star in the show’s first-ever hour-long special: Snoop Dogg, Common, and RZA.

If you love The Simpsons, you’re in for a real treat. To ring in the new year, one of the most hilarious shows on television is presenting their first-ever 60-minute-long episode featuring three special guests: Snoop Dogg, Common, and RZA.

Along with those three well-known hip hop artists, Taraji P. Henson and Keegan-Michael Key will also appear in “The Great Phatsby.”

The episode, in particular, honors F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel The Great Gatsby. According to the episode’s writer and producer Dan Greaney, this hour-long special and its guests will represent hip-hop in every form,

We wanted the Mt. Rushmore of rap, and we got it. They represent different moods and different aspects of the history of hip-hop.

The hip-hop parody centers around Mr. Burns’ destined for failure friendship with a rich hip-hop lord by the name of Jay G (sound familiar?)

The episode also takes place at Burns’ summer mansion in the Springfield Hamptons. Moreover, the special involves Burns being forced to file bankruptcy.

A not-so-ordinary episode

According to The Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman, this hour-long special started off as your ordinary episode, but they decided to kick it up a notch.

Moreover, Selman also says the show lacks a wide variety of hip hop culture. For this reason, “The Great Phatsby” was born,

This was just going to be a regular episode, but the table read went so well, in a fit of passion and excitement and ambition and excess, we decided to supersize it.

And we haven’t done a huge amount of stories in the world of hip-hop and rap culture, so we just went for it.

In fact, there’s more than just hip-hop artists to look forward to seeing, says Selman,

It’s a tale of greed, excess, betrayal, revenge, and ruthlessness, and there’s a hilarious goose in it. The goose is really funny.

Ultimately, this episode is going to be far different from what you’re used to watching. Take Homer, for example. Rather than stuffing his face with donuts the entire episode, Homer will be taking on the role of narrator.

After nearly three decades, The Simpsons is still continuing to spit out new and clever ideas. Although this episode will last an entire hour, it’s obvious that hip-hop enthusiasts and fans of the show will have no issue sitting still for sixty minutes.

The episode will air January 2017, so stay tuned.
