Seriously though. Both medical and recreational dispensaries adhere to incredibly strict rules laid down by local governments. Even if you’re 80 years old, expect to be ID’d. Always have it ready to go, and be willing at answer any questions they may have for you.

2. Be nice to your budtender

This isn’t a drug deal – you don’t need to be hostile.Budtenders will always say things like “So, what are you looking for today?” If they sound far too eager to assist you, it’s because they sincerely mean it. These people are around bud, concentrates, and edibles all day long, and they want to pass on the knowledge. Don’t be a weirdo and still-arm them.

3. Don’t roll up with a million friends

ESPECIALLY when you’re the only one buying! In many dispensaries, they don’t let large groups into the room with the good stuff – so don’t be let down if you were just trying to show your friends your favorite spot. If your group is allowed in, it’s rude to have five people smell strains, and then only sell two grams. Don’t be that person.

4. Bring cash

More and more dispensaries are accepting credit and debit cards, but bringing cash is always a smart idea. Banks in states that have recently legalized weed oftentimes have trouble navigating the legality of allowing dispensaries to open accounts. Do everyone a favor!

If you’ve never been in a dispensary before, learn before you shop. Know how much weed you want to purchase, and what a gram looks like. Don’t walk in with no knowledge, near closing-time on a Friday night when there are 10 people behind you. Just don’t.

Again, this is a place of business. Don’t try to flirt your way into an extra nug, or threaten to give a bad review in exchange for a bit more. If you didn’t know, cannabis products are intricately tracked, and you trying to snag something extra could potential harm the dispensary in a very real way. If you can’t afford the bud or amount you want, stay home.

8. No consumption on dispensary property
