While municipalities Henderson, Sparks and Carson City will be out of the mix for now, residents and visitors to Reno and Las Vegas will officially be able to legally purchase cannabis without a medical marijuana card. If you’re looking to hit a Nevada dispensary and get in on the action, here are a few things you should know.

In an effort to protect Nevada’s youth, emergency legislation was approved to ban the recreational sale of edibles that contain more that 10mg per dose and 100mg per package. If some of your favorite edibles have cartoons, balloons or anything that might appeal to children on the labeling, don’t expect to see them on the shelves.

You also won’t be able to get lollipops, several other candies, and snack foods. But most other desserts like cookies and brownies will still be available for purchase.

6. Bring cash only

Medical marijuana patients are accustomed to this, but if you’re new to visiting a dispensary, remember that they only accept cash so be sure to bring enough along with you. It’s not a bad idea to check out the menu of your dispensary of choice ahead of time. My advice is to bring about 10 percent more cash with you than what is displayed online to account for additional taxes.

7. Don’t drive while high

Especially if you’re new to weed. People with higher tolerances may be able to function better on the road, but that still doesn’t make it a good idea. Like in other places, DUI testing in Nevada is still abysmal.

Law enforcement testing for cannabis impairment is unfortunately still based on antiquated standards. A DUI here can get your driver’s license revoked, a minimum of two days jail time and a minimum $400 fine. Las Vegas a, in particular, icular are littered with Uber, Lyft and Taxi drivers, so if you plan to consume marijuana you’ve got lots of safe options.
