Unless you’ve been studying, chances are you won’t know many of these random food facts about certain foods, guaranteed to make you go “huh?”
1. The thingamajig
While there are other theories, according to some, the name “chimichanga” is the Spanish equivalent of “thingamajig.”
Despite being the mainstay of Italian cuisine, tomatoes aren’t actually native to Italy, having been introduced from South America.
3. Green strawberries
You know those Haribo green gummy bears? Well, those aren’t lime or green apple flavored. Those are strawberry.
4. What’s ‘taters, precious?
Did you know that potatoes are actually 80 percent water and 20 percent solid?
5. Say ‘cheese’
To stop it sticking together, some shredded cheese has cellulose, which is made from – wait for it – sawdust.
6. No fur
While most allergists consider the almond a tree nut, it is actually from the plum family, along with the apricot, cherry, peach, and nectarine.
7. That’s berry interesting
In a botanical sense, both strawberries and raspberries aren’t actually berries.
8. Get out
While strawberries and raspberries aren’t berries, bananas are. The same goes for eggplants, grapes, and oranges, too.
9. Garden of Eden
In many varieties of fruit, the seeds, pips, and stones contain small amounts of cyanide. But you’re unlikely to swallow enough to put yourself in danger.
10. Lollipop lollipop
You don’t eat lollipops as much as you’re just swallowing flavored-saliva.
