A stoner’s worst nightmare goes like this: you’re parked in the middle of nowhere, hotboxing your car with all your friends, armed to the teeth with your finest supply of marijuana, car opaque with smoke, when red and blue lights start flashing in your rearview.

This nightmare came to life for Mark Klokeid—also known as Theweedguy—and his friends, while they were hotboxing their BMW X5 on top of Cypress Mountain near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. To make matters worse, when the cops pulled up, they were in the midst of what was, perhaps, the most epic hot box in Canadian history.

Not only were Klokeid and his friends smoking a joint nearly the size of a Louisville Slugger, but they were also prepared with cannabutter, ten different kinds of marijuana, and lots of shatter. In the video which caught the entire showdown, Klokeid sets up a plate with three hot coals inside the car, on which he puts thumbnail-sized chunks of cannabutter and shatter which spew thick, continuous streams of marijuana smoke.

EDM music is pumping in the background: “mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the highest of them all?” says the vocalist in the song. Evidently, Klokeid is. Before long, he can barely speak through the thick clouds of smoke in the air and his lungs. “It’s really hard to breathe in here,” Klokeid’s friend says at one point, coughing nearly to the point of regurgitation. “Wow, this is really intense,” says Klokeid.

By the time Klokeid and his friends exit the car, smoke is billowing out of every door. If you were watching from the highway and didn’t know better, you might assume the car was on fire. This may have in fact been the case because, at precisely this moment, a team of police cruisers pulls up behind the BMW.  “I think we’re screwed,” one of his friends says.

The police confront the hot box crew, asking for identification. The camera is still filming in the car and catches the best part, when Klokeid opening the back door with a police officer standing over his shoulder, stern-faced, as smoke continues to pour off the hot coals inside the car. Through the smokey haze, you can see Klokeid hand the police officer his identification. The EDM music is still blaring when the officer finally reaches into the front seat, and noticing the camera, pulls it off the dashboard.

It’s worth mentioning that, at the time of the hot box bust, Stephen Harper was Prime Minister and legalizing marijuana was still a campaign promise yet to pan out for the soon-to-be Prime Minister Trudeau. But luckily, somehow, everything turned out alright for Klokeid and his buddies.

At the end of the video, Klokeid tells us that the police were “terribly understanding” of his “medical needs” and ultimately let them go. As Klokeid writes on his website, he was previously diagnosed with stage four high-grade blood cancer,  uses “doctor prescribed Marijuana” and is federally licensed to grow cannabis. So it’s likely that Klokeid’s medical permits helped get him off the hook. Or maybe it’s because, as Klokeid speculates,  it was a beautiful day and “this is what they wish they were doing.”
