7 Real Reasons People In Their 20s Love Cannabis
There are plenty of reasons why those in their 20s enjoy cannabis much more than alcohol now. Here are 7 realistic reasons.
Our parents may have tossed back a cocktail at the end of their long, hard day, but those of us in our twenties have found that cannabis fits the bill better than any form of alcohol. This may be surprising considering people in their twenties were subjected to some of the worst anti-cannabis propaganda in history, yet still found their way to trying their first joint. For those of you trying to understand the generational switch from booze to bud, here are the top seven reasons why people in their twenties love smoking cannabis.
Time for Self-Exploration
Being in your twenties means it’s time to figure out what the rest of your life is going to look like—which can be scary as hell. 20-somethings might turn to cannabis to discover more about themselves since it can help you bring out subconscious creativity and desires to guide you in the right direction. Feeling bored of the 9-5 grind? Pick up a paintbrush and take a puff, maybe you’ll find a hidden talent. Or maybe even pick up an instrument and begin to love an untapped hobby.
It Softens the Blow of Adult Realities
Paying bills, cleaning the house, relaxing because you can’t afford to leave the house, all of these have one thing in common—marijuana will make you feel better doing it. Being an adult sucks sometimes, and the harsh realities of living outside the loving (and financially supportive) arms of your parents may be overwhelming. After smoking a tree or two, however, you realize that being over 21 has its perks.
Cannabis is an Old Friend
As a result of prohibition, many people in their twenties have had a long-standing cannabis hook-up who didn’t necessarily care if you are over 21. Beer was sometimes hard to get and maybe didn’t give the desired effect. This has resulted in many 20-somethings having a long relationship with cannabis, most preferring it against alcohol.
Going Out to the Bars = Effort
Going out to the bar always seems like a huge effort: gathering the friends, getting the booze, arranging the taxis, making sure Shelly doesn’t go home with a dickhead—plus there’s the general atmosphere of a bar or club (ugh). There is very little interaction in a bar, if the club music was cut randomly in the middle of a song you would hear everyone literally just yelling at each other. Not conducive to hanging with friends. Why not stay home, smoke and actually converse?
Hangovers are Becoming Deathly
After a night of screaming at your friends on a loud dance floor, you may wake up and find that those questionable sugary drinks have left you with nothing but a splitting headache and an upset stomach. Your early twenties may allow you to have a quick hangover recovery but as the decade processes, that turn-around-time becomes longer and longer. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Cannabis is Cheaper
Depending on where you live, cannabis can be a more cost effective option for relieving stress than alcohol. It can also last longer in many of its forms like oil or wax. Marijuana gives you a better bang for your buck than alcohol—all the propagandists love to say that marijuana today is much stronger than our parents’ weed (which is absolutely true), but it allows for smokers to consume less with a greater effect.
Cannabis can be a great end-of-day ritual to help you reflect and relax before you have to do it all again tomorrow. Sigh.
