This artwork combines Cara Delevigne and 7000 Ecstasy pills for an amazing piece that will be on the auction block for a fair chunk of change.
A work of art
The British artist Chemical X, who first found fame with a series of pieces featuring a load of Ecstasy pills, is back with more art, which also includes more drugs. His newest artwork is called ‘The Spirit of Ecstasy,” and is constructed from more than 7,000 meticulously hand-placed ecstasy pills.
Rising to fame by designing the original Ministry of Sound logo, like Banksy, Chemical X’s identity is still unknown. His latest work, “The Spirit of Ecstasy” is a collaboration with artist Shoony, which uses a whole lot of Ecstasy to create concentric circles around an eerily hyper-realistic young woman that made out of silicone and fiberglass, suspended in ripples of E.
The mystery model
So, who is the inspiration for the faux model in the installation? Currently, Chemical X or Shoony aren’t saying who it is based on. But there are features that are seen on a real-life model and actress Cara Delevigne, who is said to have similar tattoos – such as the lion on the index finger and “BACON” on the right foot – to the art piece. Of course, it is most definitely based on Delevigne, who is a fan of Chemical X’s art, owning pieces of his previous work.

The Spirit of Ecstasy
While the feature is most definitely the Delevigne-inspired model, you can’t forget that the rest of the piece is made from more than 7000 Ecstasy pills, which are carefully placed in clear resin in concentric circles. The model appears to be transfixed, in the middle of the artwork, which has the pills making a ripped around her.
Being made as the showpiece for Chemical X’s new show, CX300, the pills were made in a private lab. With 7000 pills alone for “The Spirit of Ecstasy,” and another 10,000 in other pieces in the show, you can see why the exhibition will be taking place at a secret location.
