Jonah Hill Hospitalized After Overdosing On Fake Cocaine
Have you ever wondered what all those drugs in movies are really made out of? Apparently, fake cocaine isn’t much healthier than the real stuff.
Funnyman Jonah Hill is a riot in any film he stars in. From 21 Jump Street to The Babysitter, Hill outperforms most other comedians of our generation. He’s dedicated to his work and often takes his commitments a bit too far. During the filming of The Wolf Of Wall Street, Hill did just that, ingesting so much fake cocaine he put himself in the hospital. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what it is.
If you haven’t seen the 2013 hit film The Wolf Of Wall Street, you might be questioning why anyone would have the excuse to ingest copious amounts of fake cocaine, but it’s all part of the true story of Jordan Belfort.
Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a man hell bent on making his way to the top of Wall Street, stopping at nothing to become one of the richest men of his time.
Throughout the film, Belfort befriends a cast of companies who are responsible for his rise to success. His right-hand man, Donnie Azoff, is played by Jonah Hill. It’s his duty to keep Belfort on top of his game, ensuring meetings are kept and appointments are made, as well as relaying any breaking stock tips.
The two commit crime after crime in pursuit of the all-mighty dollar and fuel their charades with cocaine, prostitutes, money and a whole host of other illegal substances. During filming, it was this fake cocaine that landed Hill in the hospital for repertory issues.
Fake cocaine, real problems
While we all knew it wasn’t real cocaine being snorted in films where the drug is featured, I bet most of us didn’t realize the powdery substance they use can be just as dangerous. Vitamin powder replaced the cocaine on set, but after seven months of snorting the stuff, Hill’s body had had enough.
I did so much fake cocaine in Wolf Of Wall Street I got bronchitis for three weeks. I had to be hospitalized. It’s vitamin powder but it doesn’t matter because if you ingest that much matter into your lungs, you will get very sick.
We were literally doing fake coke for, like, seven months, every day. I never had more vitamin D in my entire life; I could have lifted a car over my fucking head.
After ingesting all that powder into his lungs, it’s no wonder Hill needed critical medical attention. If they had been smoking cannabis on set, I bet the outcome would have been different. Hill’s lungs might have been sore from coughing, but he certainly wouldn’t have needed to be hospitalized.
At any rate, the film went on to secure a series of award nominations and ended up taking home the Golden Globe for Best Actor Leonard DiCaprio, People’s Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Actor Leonard Dicaprio, and our own favorite, Jonah Hill, won the MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance.
