People are always looking for the next big thing. We like fast cars and big screen TVs – if we are talking marijuana you’ll often hear people talk of the biggest buds, the highest THC percentage, and the maximum high. If you are just a consumer of marijuana you are probably most concerned with maximizing your high, so let’s take a look out how you can the biggest bang from your buds.
Buy marijuana with high levels of THC
This may seem like a no-brainer to some of you, but it really works. If you have access to a dispensary, you should be aware of the labels on the different strains offered. Often times, dispensaries will label the THC percentages and lately CBD as well. In most cases, you are probably buying marijuana that has 12-18% THC, if you are looking for the next maximum high, search for Chem D.O.G. by Next Harvest, it won highest THC for Indica strains at the 2015 Cannabis Cup with 32.13%.
Try concentrates and oils
Marijuana concentrates have been around for a long time, usually in the form of kief or hash. In the spirit of bigger and better new marijuana concentrates have entered the market, they are usually referred to as “shatter”, “wax”, and/or “oil”. These products are made by using a solvent usually butane or CO2, that isolate the essential oils, cannabinoids, and terpenes to create a concentrated mass of “the stuff that gets you high”. Compared to the Chem D.O.G. flower, this years Cannabis Cup winning concentrate had 82.22% THC. Concentrates come at a steeper price than flower does, but the increased THC percentages command the price.
Try eating mangoes or other myrcene rich fruits.
We talked about why mangoes can maximize your high recently, but in case you missed it—mangoes work. Mangoes are rich in myrcrene the terpene that gives them their smell. Eating very ripe mangoes before smoking marijuana will help your endocannabinod system to absorb extra THC maximizing your high.
Try eating edibles
When smoking marijuana, the THC goes straight to your brain, giving you an immediate and relatively short lasting high. When you ingest marijuana edibles, the THC is processed through the liver and converted to 11-hydroxy-THC, a metabolite that is quite good at crossing the blood brain barrier. The high that you experience will be felt in the body less than in your head. Also, because your body takes a longer time to digest the marijuana it releases the THC over a longer period of time, thus maximizing the length of your high.
Exercise after smoking
Studies have shown that the “runner’s high” is not a result of endorphins, but actually caused by the endocannabinoid system. Your body releases cannabinoids in order to help you cope with the stress you are putting on your body. Smoking before exercising will give you an extra dose of the naturally occurring cannabinoids—exercise is also good for you!
If you are a heavy smoker, try taking a break
This is probably the hardest way to maximize your high. If marijuana has become an integral part of your routine you won’t want to say goodbye for too long. Don’t worry, even if you take 1 week off from smoking you will give your body a chance to clean out some of the lingering THC. When you come back to smoking, you will reach a new maximum level of highness. If you take a break and then buy some concentrate for your welcome back party, you will probably have the “American Dream”—you know, the max maximum high.
Taking a break from smoking is probably the most effective way to maximize your future highs. I wouldn’t wish a period of time without marijuana on my worst enemy though, so try some of the other methods first.
