Cannabis within the NFL has been a major topic, especially over the past couple of years more than anything. However, the NFL still continues to keep cannabis on the banned substance list and continues to test players for it. However, will that change in the near future?
There is no question that it will change in the future when cannabis policies change at a federal level. But could it change before that happens? Just last year, Commissioner Roger Goodell showed his will to consider the plant if medical experts deemed it to be beneficial for players within the league.
“We’ll continue to follow the medicine… that’s something we would never take off the table if we could benefit our players at the end of the day.”
However, there is no indication of lifting marijuana off the banned substance list any time soon. Watch the opinions of former NFL stars Brian Dawkins and Ryan Clark as they speak with Linda Cohn on SportsCenter.
One piece we think needs to be added next time is the use of cannabis for concussions, which is a major issue within the league. Do you think the NFL should lift cannabis from the banned substance list?
