If you are among the crowd that can’t wait for the 69th annual event, then you should know that hip-hop is getting a ton of love this year from the Television Academy. The Emmys are still roughly two months away, but it’s never too early to get you pumped up. Here is a closer look at this year’s Emmy Award nominees.
The love for hip-hop is real at this year’s Emmys
From Snoop Dogg to LL Cool J, several hip-hop talents are receiving praise from the Television Academy. But first, let’s talk about Chance the Rapper.
Already this year, Chance the Rapper has won three Grammy Awards. And now, he is up for a nomination for outstanding original music and lyrics for rap parody Last Christmas from Saturday Night Live along with Kenan Thompson, Eli Brueggemann, and Will Stephen.
In case you missed out,
Oscar and Grammy winner Common is another hip-hop artist getting Emmy love this year. In the same category as Chance, he is up for a nomination for his song “Letter to the Free.”
Snoop and Martha share nomination for outstanding host
As it turns out, your favorite pothead Snoop, who has never won a Grammy, is also up for a nomination for outstanding host along with sidekick Martha Stewart. Of course, it wouldn’t be for anything other than their hit show on VH1 Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.
Finally, LL Cool J, producer of Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle, is earning a nomination for Outstanding Structured Reality Program. That’s it for hip-hop artists, but that’s not the last you’ll see of rap. Among the list of nominees in the outstanding short form variety series category is Epic Rap Battles of History, a web series that airs on YouTube.
Moving away from hip-hop, other Emmy nominees relating to music include Lady Gaga for her halftime performance at the previous Super Bowl. Also, The Voice, Tony Bennett’s 90th birthday celebration concert, and the documentary The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years.
Be sure not to miss out on the 69th Emmy Awards, set to air on September 17. In the meantime, if you want to check out the full list of nominees, then feel free to have a look here.
