Is Synthetic CBD Dangerous?
As synthetic CBD is developed and researched, we must know whether or not it poses any risks. Is synthetic CBD dangerous?
CBD, or cannabidiol, continues to grow in popularity in the cannabis community. And when things get popular, they begin to be copied, either naturally or synthetically. As synthetic CBD is created and researched, we must know whether or not it poses any risks. Is synthetic CBD dangerous?
While the legal whole-plant cannabis industry continues to grow, numerous organizations have sought to create synthetic cannabinoids. Whether it’s an “illegal” and “designer” or a prescription endorsed by the FDA, synthetic cannabinoids are popping up everywhere.
One synthetic cannabinoid, known commonly as “spice” is illegal for good reasons. After becoming illegal in 2014, the number of calls to poison control increased by 330%. The use of “spice” led to numerous deaths and other health complications.
Interesting, the FDA has taken an interest in synthetic cannabinoids. However, despite receiving a thumbs-up from the FDA, prescription drugs like Marinol can have adverse effects. Side effects of Marinol, or synthetic THC, are dizziness, confusion, and drowsiness. It also has more serious effects, such as low-blood pressure and fainting spells.
Synthetic CBD in mice
So far, the outlook for synthetic cannabinoids looks positive. While there are currently no companies selling synthesized CBD or clinical human-trials taking place, there are a number of studies with synthetic CBD and mice.
One study shows the ability of CBD synthesized with other chemical compounds, such as fluoride and bromide, help to prevent and stop convulsions in mice. While synthetic CBD seems to have a bright future in animal models, no verdict on this debate can be decided as of yet – unfortunately, there are no human studies with any type of synthetic CBD molecules.
Until we can know positive and negative effects of synthetic CBD on humans, we cannot say for sure whether it poses a danger to your health. Luckily, you can utilize the real-deal!
Whole-plant, naturally derived CBD is becoming more and more popular. There are numerous studies showing the positive impact of CBD on the human endocannabinoid system. CBD has the ability to aid those suffering from mental illness or even cancer.
As users continue to report its beneficial therapeutic and medicinal effects, it’s fair to say that hemp-derived CBD is beneficial to the human body.
