A lot changes when you go from being a teenager to an adult, including what you smoke, how you smoke it, and why. During your teenage years, weed is simply weed. All you know is it gets you high, and you love it. But as you mature, you, for the most part, get smarter about what you’re putting into your body. Not only do you learn more about weed itself, but you also start to ditch old habits, like smoking from an aluminum can. Some of what we pick up as teenagers we carry with us into adulthood. However, there are parts of our smoking regime that are best left in the past, while others are exchanged for something new. From storing your bud properly to choosing healthier ways to consume, here are 10 things that happen as you transition from a teenage toker to a seasoned smoker.
1. The crowd you smoke with isn’t so sketch
Admit it. As a teenage toker, you probably smoked with some pretty sketchy folks in some pretty sketchy places. Finding weed wasn’t always easy. So if it meant going to some weirdo’s house to get high, you were down.
2. You store your buds properly
Instead of throwing your buds in a plastic baggie and tossing it in your nightstand, you handle your goods with more care these days. Having a decent stash jar is a must.
3. You start to care more about what you’re smoking
During your teenage years, you didn’t care about strains and what not. As long as it was weed that you were smoking, you were straight.
4. You develop a higher tolerance
Remember when a couple of hits from the bowl would get you super high? Yeah, unfortunately, those days are long gone.
5. You don’t feel the need to keep your love for weed a secret
People are much more accepting today than they were when you were a teen. That means you can be more open about your love for bong rips, fat blunts, and delicious dabs. As a teen, only your closest friends knew your favorite pastime.
6. You’re smarter about where you consume
When you first started getting high, you didn’t mind where you did it. Whether you were sneaking a couple of hits in the school parking lot or at a park somewhere, you gave zero f*cks. Nowadays, however, you are a bit more responsible and cautious.
Getting caught as a minor isn’t as big of a deal. But as an adult, you could be facing some pretty hefty fines and maybe even jail time, depending on where you live.
7. It’s not just about getting high anymore, man
Back in the day, your only goal was to get stoned. Now that you’re a seasoned smoker, you smoke for reasons other than just to get high.
8. Sparking up feels less taboo
You no longer have to feel guilty about smoking a harmless left-handed cigarette.
9. You choose healthier ways to consume
The aluminum can was fun while it lasted.
10. You outgrow the stoner phase
