What’s happening when you get high and drunk at the same time? You feel lit, of course. But there’s a little more to it.
Many people enjoy consuming cannabis while throwing back a few alcoholic beverages.
But what’s actually happening when you get high and drunk at the same time? You’re crossfaded, of course. However, knowing what’s actually going on in your body can be pretty interesting.
Although alcohol can indeed increase your high, it can also cause some serious health problems. Be sure to check out the video below by AsapScience to learn what happens when you get drunk and high at the same time.

You’ve probably consumed cannabis at least once or twice while drinking alcohol. But have you ever thought about what happens when you’re drunk and high simultaneously?
In general, alcohol affects your central nervous system by changing how your neurons communicate. Moreover, it suppresses the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate and increases the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA.
As a result, you cannot process information as quickly and appear more “slow.”
On the other hand, cannabis contains THC, which acts on the brain’s cannabinoid receptors and causes some neurons in the brain to continuously fire, which removes their average refractory period and magnifies your imagination.
Since both cannabis and alcohol inhibit glutamate transmission, which plays a vital role in your learning process, combining the two can cause poor memory.
However, cannabis and alcohol make you feel lit or “crossfaded.” Studies show that after taking two shots, the THC levels in participants’ blood plasma were double in comparison to those that were high with a placebo drink.
In other words, alcohol makes you higher. Check out the video below for all the information.

Some would describe the effects of mixing alcohol and weed as a floating sensation. Your body feels a lot lighter, even though you might be stomping around and throwing yourself onto the couch.
Because alcohol enlarges blood vessels in the gastrointestinal tract, our bodies absorb THC much faster. Thus, we can get higher quicker. But it’s not always that fun.
If you smoked weed before you drank, it becomes harder for your body to know when to stop drinking, which increases your chances of alcohol poisoning.
On the other hand, smoking after drinking can get you way higher than you expected because you’re absorbing more THC into your bloodstream. Simply put, it can be a dangerous game if you’re not careful.
If you present any of the following symptoms when crossfaded, it’s best to stop drinking and smoking. These symptoms are practically flags from your body that are telling you enough is enough:
