Back when I was buying weed from a dealer, he would only have two options; pink kush and sour diesel. Did I trust him? Well, yes.
What else is a desperate stoner supposed to do?
Once Canada started inching closer to recreational legalization in 2018, I was wowed when my dealer sent over an entire menu of strains, their THC content, and whether they were Indica, Sativa, or hybrids.
I was finally starting to broaden my cannabis horizons, try different strains, and find more options for my preferred experience.
Four years after Canada’s cannabis legalization, we as a community have learned about
While we’ve thoroughly explored our beloved CBD and other naturally occurring cannabinoids, we’ve also started learning about newer cannabinoids like delta-8 THC.
Delta-8 THC is a man-made cannabinoid, meaning it does not naturally occur in the cannabis plant. It’s made by taking CBD or traditional delta-9 THC and converting it to delta-8 THC.
It may seem a little foreign to users who appreciate the natural essence of cannabis. But it may help to understand that delta-8 is incredibly similar to delta-9; the only difference is the slightest change in its molecular structure.
The double bond in the carbon atom of delta-9 THC is on the 9th chain of its chemical structure. On the other hand, the double bond in delta-8 THC’s carbon atom is on the 8th chain. Hence the names delta-9 and delta-8.
But how is this new cannabinoid transforming the industry? Well, remember my story about how dealers would only have a few options for their clients?
Chancers are, these strains would either be low quality or get you ridiculously high. There was no in-between.
Delta-8 is cherished for its mild effects that don’t cause
Simply put, the entrance of delta-8 THC means there are more options for different experiences. The effects of this cannabinoid are similar to your usual delta-9 THC but much less mild.
One could argue that if someone doesn’t want to feel “too high,” why not just use non-psychoactive CBD?
But that’s not fair for individuals who still appreciate feeling euphoric and lifted with a subtle buzz but want to avoid feeling paranoid.
For this reason, the cannabis industry can finally welcome these individuals with products that are tailored for those specific experiences.
An appropriate dose of delta-8 will not make you paranoid but will offer mild psychoactive effects compared to CBD. If that’s not the happy medium we were looking for, I don’t know what is.
Delta 8 is a new cannabinoid garnering lots of attention from the marijuana industry. Although this is a synthetic cannabinoid, the similarities between Delta 8 and Delta 9 are very close, with only a tiny molecular difference. In addition, connaisseurs from abroad are starting to appreciate the unique experience that Delta 8 offers with milder symptoms than Delta 9 products.
Some common effects felt by Delta 8 products are:
