A court has ordered rapper French Montana to pay his former manager, Debra Antney, almost $2 million for making deals without her consent.
Antney, who also happens to be the mother of rap icons Waka Flocka Flame and KayO Redd, is the CEO of Mizay Ent. The management firm is notable for bringing up acts like Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane, among other high-profile artists.
Antney first sued French Montana in 2013. The lawsuit ratified the contractual agreement made between the artist and his former manager.
Antney won $1,864,012.50 in 2017 and then was granted an additional $135,140.91 for interest in January 2018. The total sum of the settlement reflects Debra Antney’s 20 percent management fee, which she charges her clients.
Despite Antney’s courtroom victory, French Montana has yet to respond or pay the settlement.
In a 2013 interview on The Breakfast Club, Debra Antney claims that she loves French Montana, but business is business. At the time, the lawsuit between the two was in its infantile stages.
