Cannabis cocktails are the latest experiment with cannabis cuisine. This latest craze of infusing alcohol with marijuana is sometimes more than just a process of putting some weed in some wine. It can take anywhere from days to hours to infuse alcohol with wine. The latest commercial crazes with alcohol involve specifically choosing flavors to bring out the taste of the buds.
Although marijuana is legal recreationally in some states in the USA now, we are still some time away from having bud get-togethers at bars and clubs.
If you prefer to replace your alcohol with buds for a healthier alternative, there are also cocktails for you non-drinkers out there. These are bud infused cocktails that have fruity additives and don’t contain any alcohol at all. So that way you can enjoy a healthier alternative to alcohol, and get the medicinal benefits of marijuana, too!
1. Bud Rum
Bud Rum is a good way to infuse cannabis into any of your favorite rum cocktails. Before you go steeping any buds in your rum, put it in the oven to bake for 3 minutes at 175 F. This will help activate the THC in your buds to infuse them into your alcohol. Be careful how much bud you put in there, because too much can result in an over-potent infusion!
You are going to steep your buds for four days, and each day you should shake your rum and cannabis confusion vigorously. On the fourth day, boil a large pot of water. Once it is boiling, turn off the heat and put your bottle of rum and bud in there. Make sure the water level isn’t over the top of the bottle. Let it sit for 30 minutes while your THC activates in your rum, then strain and discard the leaves.
Then you can use your Bud Rum to make any of your favorite rum cocktails. Recommendations include the classic Rum Punch (Bud Rum, lime juice and sugar syrup). It’s a very laid back drink, and will complement your laid back buds.
For something a little bit more fancy…
This Cannabis cocktail recipe made its debut in a restaurant in Brooklyn. The restaurant, called Roberta’s, featured an underground weed dinner as long ago as 2012. Their dinner included a weed infused cream of coconut to make their THC painkiller mix. It is called the California Painkiller, and instead of infusing your weed in alcohol, you will be infusing it into coconut cream and then mixing it with Rum.
Alternatively, you can use your Bud Rum and then use plain coconut cream!
To infuse coconut cream, just add your buds to coconut cream and put it on the stove in a pot. Make sure there is enough coconut cream to cover your buds. Let it simmer at a low heat for 2-3 hours. Then strain your leaves out of your coconut cream. Then add 1 part rum, 2 parts of your cannabis infused coconut cream and nutmeg to garnish.
This is a special recipe designed for connoisseurs of the cannabis cuisine. It was specifically designed to bring out the flavors of Northern Lights strain of weed.
2. Cannabis Vodka
You can make cannabis vodka the same way that you make Bud Rum. Repeat the same process for baking your buds, steeping it and shaking, then in boiling water.
You can use it the same way, by adding your Cannabis Vodka to any of your favorite vodka cocktails.
We recommend the Lemon Drop Martini, so you can get the medicinal benefits from your cannabis, your vodka and your lemons! To make the Lemon Drop Canna-martini, just add 1 part Cannabis Vodka, 1/4 part triple sec and 1/4 part lemon juice. Add a sugar rim if you like a bit of sweetness!
3. For a healthier alternative to alcohol
Your cannabis for these non-alcoholic drinks will be infused into water, sugar and glycerin before you mix it into your drink. To make this, you are going to need 3 cups of water, 3 cups of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin (you can buy this at a health food store) and 2 grams of cannabis.
Bring the water to a boil. Put in your finely chopped cannabis, add your sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Cover the pot and let it boil for 20 minutes. Reduce the temperature to something medium and then add the glycerin. Let it simmer for 5-6 minutes, and stir it every minute. Then strain, and let it chill. It should measure out about 3 cups of Cannabis Syrup.
4. Malibu Mule
The Malibu Mule was traditionally a 1950’s drink that included ginger ale, but this one uses ginger syrup for extra tang!
This needs 4 parts Cannabis Syrup, 2 parts fresh lime juice, 1 part ginger syrup and as much club soda as you like. You can use this recipe with your medicinal marijuana and get the benefits of ginger and weed!
5. Cannabis Cup
This is a refreshing drink that you can serve icy cold on a summer’s day!
Add 4 parts Cannabis Syrup, a lime, 4 slices of cucumber and sparkling water to taste!
So, there is a little bit for everyone here – from something simple to something a bit more fancy. And if you don’t drink alcohol, that’s okay, too! You can also enjoy cannabis cocktails!SHARE
