Sometimes, you just want a reliable, sleepy, relaxing strain. When you need to leave daily stress and anxiety behind, Northern Lights is an excellent choice. Nearly a pure indica, this heavy-hitting flower is one of the most popular strains around. Fairly easy to find in dispensaries, Northern Lights is a quality strain to return to again and again.

Northern Lights is a mixture of various landrace strains, including Afghani and Thai. Unlike many modern indicas out there, this strain is thought to be about 95% indica. This means that you can expect some classic indica effects and growth patterns.

As a modern strain, Northern Lights can have a very high THC content. In some of the highest tests, this flower reached 26% THC. Though, on average, THC levels hover between 16 and 19%.

Though there is talk that this strain first began in the Seattle area, the Northern Lights that we know today was stabilized by Amsterdam’s legendary Sensi Seeds.

There are 11 different variations of Northern Lights, with #1 and #5 being the best. If you’re picking up at a dispensary, ask your budtender which phenotype they’re offering.

This strain has a strong pine forest aroma with some almost lemon-like pungency. It often has a bit of a spicy kick with a bit of Kush sweetness. Northern Lights is now one of the most popular indicas around and is readily available in West Coast and Colorado dispensaries.

The Northern Lights experience

Northern Lights has become so popular for a reason. It provides an extremely fast-acting, physical high that can hit you like a ton of bricks (but in a good way).

Anyone that needs a very rapid sedative or painkiller will likely be impressed with this bud.

Muscle tension and physical stress evaporate almost immediately. Though indicas are known to create a heavy-bodied sensation, Northern Lights feels like it removes the weight of everyday wear and tear. It’s easy to move, though you may find yourself stuck to the couch after a couple of tastes.

Accompanying this physical high is a sense of euphoria. An uplifting sense of well-being eases away mental stresses and elevates mood. Though, with this happiness comes hunger. You’ll want to have some snacks handy before breaking into Northern Lights.

Why do people use Northern Lights?

This nighttime indica is an amazing sleep aid. Even low doses of this strain can have inexperienced consumers nodding off and ready for bed. If you’re prone to insomnia, Northern Lights is a quality and reliable choice.

The intense physical high this strain provides is also excellent for pain. Muscle spasms, tension, arthritis pain, and general soreness are all eased by this sedative herb. Those with mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and chronic stress also tend to love Northern Lights.

Recreationally, save this strain for a rainy day. The sleepy couch lock Northern Lights inspires will make it difficult to get things done.

So, if you’re stuck in bed with the flu or are snowed in, this indica can help pass the time. Otherwise, save Northern Lights for the evening or post-dinner leisure time.
