Singapore's Strict Cannabis Laws And Harsh Penalties

Apart from this, Singapore is known to have some of the harshest regulations and penalties in the world. This is true for drug offenses, making it illegal to possess or consume cannabis there. 

The Misuse of Drugs Act states that anyone caught with marijuana faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence and an SGD 20,000 fine (approximately USD 15,000). To top things off, you might even get sentenced to caning. 

People found to be trafficking cannabis or in possession of more than 500 grams of the substance risk life in jail and fines of up to SGD 500,000. (approximately USD 370,000). The government has maintained a hard stance on drug charges, despite calls for the nation to explore more tolerant cannabis legislation.

Japan's Prohibition Of Cannabis Possession And Use

According to the Cannabis Control Law, individuals caught with cannabis can be imprisoned for up to five years and fined up to JPY 5 million (approximately USD 46,000). Those found to be trafficking cannabis can face up to seven years in prison and fines of up to JPY 10 million (approximately USD 92,000).

South Korea's Criminalization Of Cannabis

South Korea is a vibrant East Asian country located on the Korean Peninsula. It is home to a rich culture, high-tech cities, ancient temples, and beautiful landscapes.

South Korea has historically had stringent rules and penalties for drug offenses, making it illegal to possess or consume cannabis. 

The Narcotics Control Act states that anyone caught with marijuana faces a maximum five-year prison sentence and a KRW 50 million fine (approximately USD 44,000). Those found to be trafficking the narcotic risk a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and fines of KRW 100 million (approximately USD 88,000).

 

China's Longstanding Ban On Cannabis

Oklahoma isn’t messing around. Even a first-time offender in possession of marijuana faces a year in prison. The state has been known for holding some of the strictest cannabis laws in the country. Some examples of this include back in 2017 when Governor Mary Fallin reduced a man’s pot trafficking sentence from life without parole to life with parole.

The state does allow pediatric epilepsy treatment with CBD oils, but anything else is considered a felony.
