How To Roll A Joint Filter In 4 Easy Steps

Smoke with class by filtering your grass and learning how to roll a filter.

Rolling a joint? Don’t forget the filter!

Joint filters, or tips, aren’t just for show – they’re game-changers in the rolling world.

Plus, if you don’t have one handy, creating your own has never been easier.

Read on to learn more about joint filters and how to make one.

Why Are Joint Filters Used

Joint filters serve two main purposes in the art of rolling a joint.

First, they give structural support to the joint, preventing it from becoming squishy as you smoke it down.

Second and most importantly, filters act as a barrier between your lips and your burning bud, reducing the amount of inhaled tar and resin. This makes your smoke much cleaner and smoother, and it also makes the joint easier to handle without burning fingers or lips.

What Can I Use As a Joint Filter

When it comes to crafting a joint filter, you’ve got options.

If you don’t already have some from your local smoke shop, fear not – plenty of household items can serve as suitable alternatives.

Consider cutting a strip from a business card or using a piece of sturdy paper, like an index card or even a magazine cover. Just make sure that whatever material you choose is clean and free of any ink or chemicals that could compromise your health.

Gather The Filter Material

Prepare your filter material by cutting a rectangular piece, such as a section from a business card. The size of your filter depends on the width and length of this rectangle. Opt for a smaller filter for smaller joints and a larger one for bigger ones.

Fold The Filter Tip Into A W-Shape

How to fold a filter: Start by taking your rectangular filter tip and fold approximately 0.4 to 0.8 of an inch (1mm to 2mm) of one end to form a small rectangle shape. Then, keeping that rectangle folded over, fold the filter tip again in the same manner, but this time in the opposite direction.

As you continue folding, alternate the direction of each fold to create a zigzag pattern resembling the shape of a “W.” By the end of this process, you should see a distinct “W” shape on one end of the filter tip, with one side longer than the other due to the remaining unfolded filter paper.

Wrap The Filter Tip To Create A Cylinder

How to roll a tip: With one hand holding the “W” shape closed, wrap the excess filter paper around it to form a cylinder. You can adjust the tightness of the wrap to control the size of the filter – the tighter you wrap it around, the smaller the filter hole will be.

Roll the filter back and forth between your thumb and forefinger until it stays rolled up on its own without uncoiling to make it easier for you to roll it into your joint. Be careful not to roll it too tight, or you’ll be sucking for days to try and get the smoke out of your joint.

Place Inside The Joint, Roll and Secure

Simply insert your filter into your rolling paper, add your bud, and roll your joint.

A smoother smoking experience now awaits you. Light up and enjoy!
