Blue Sage Cannabis Deli Challenges Big Pharma To Taste Their Own Medicine

In Missouri alone, 73% of overdose deaths involve opioids. Learn how these founders are raising awareness.

The opioid epidemic was declared a public health emergency in 2017. Since then, drug overdose deaths have skyrocketed. As the public has learned how addictive and dangerous opioids are, the problem has only gotten worse.

Founders of Missouri-based Blue Sage Cannabis Deli and Show-Me Organics share an alarming fact: 73% of overdose deaths involve opioids in Missouri alone. Now, they want Big Pharma to get a taste of their own medicine.

Their “Taste Your Own Medicine” campaign takes a stand against pharmaceutical companies unjustly prescribing opioids and urges them to finally admit how many lives these dangerous drugs have taken.

You can help. Read on for the full rundown.

From Pharmacy To Dispensary

Meet LeAnne and Jess Dickerson, founders of Blue Sage Cannabis Deli and Show-Me Organics. For 17 years, they owned a local pharmacy. But as they watched opioid addiction run rampant throughout the community, they knew something had to change.

“If you’d have told us 10 years ago that we would be in the cannabis business, we would have called you a liar,” LeAnne admits in a campaign video. But it took a personal wake-up call to make that a reality.

After a horrible car accident that left Jess with a broken back and neck, he made a bold choice: no opioids. For 30 years, he lived with the pain until his sons introduced him to cannabis.

“When I tried it, it made a big difference…It changed my life,” Jess shares. The couple’s next move? Relentless research on the endocannabinoid system and the benefits of cannabis over traditional painkillers.

Challenging Big Pharma

Now, LeAnne and Jess are on a mission. Their “Taste Your Own Medicine” campaign is calling on Big Pharma to take accountability.

Here’s the reality:

  • In 2021, drug overdose deaths were over 6x higher than in 1999.

  • Opioid-related overdose deaths skyrocketed from 49,860 in 2019 to 81,806 in 2022.

  • Since 2017, when the opioid epidemic was declared a public health emergency, over 560,000 people in the US have died from opioid-related overdoses.

  • In Missouri alone, 73% of overdose deaths involve opioids.

LeAnne and Jess believe it’s time for pharmaceutical companies to own up to their wrongdoings—to admit how dangerous and addictive these drugs truly are.

After all, if companies believe in their products, the people selling them should be willing to take them—as is the case with the Dickersons. Why hold Big Pharma to a different standard?
