‘Hot Box Social’: Michigan’s Debut Consumption Lounge

It’s about time Michigan receives what it’s been waiting for since legalizing recreational marijuana and launching sales in December 2019. Just under three years later, the state is about to open its very first cannabis consumption lounge. 

Located at 23610 John R Road in Main Street Hazel Park, Hot Box Social was designed to let guests experience “consumption-friendly activities like social gatherings, educational opportunities, and arts-focused activities,” notes a recent press release. 

The state’s first official licensed consumption lounge is owned and operated by Trucenta, which also owns Hazel Park-based recreational provisioning center, Breeze. Once operations are well underway, Trucenta is expected to add both an indoor and outdoor area. 

However, for the first few months after opening, Hot Box Social will only host “corporate, social, and special events,” according to the chief information officer of Trucenta, Nowfal Akash. 

“Our hope is that Hot Box Social will be used to bring a new experience for companies hosting brainstorming meetings, friends who are gathering for private parties, and one-of-a-kind fundraisers to raise money for nonprofit organizations,” he concluded. 

Akash added that the lounge should open up to the general public around summertime. Corporate events and gatherings will also have food trucks on-site and local caterers. 

The space has a capacity of 200, and the indoor portion of the lounge comes in at 3,000-square-foot. Just outside sits a 5,000-square-foot back patio with comfortable seating to enhance the relaxed and peaceful setting it hopes to offer. 

When Hot Box Social opens for general public access, the press release mentions that it will not sell cannabis on-site. All cannabis consumed on the grounds must be delivered by a local dispensary and given to the consumer at the lounge. 

Finally, Hot Box Social will also have a friendly staff of cannabis experts helping individuals choose which products are right for them.  

Hot Box Social is set to open to the general public this summer.
