The Cypress Hill rapper says 'Insane OG' is the "future of legacy cannabis."
Today, fans of legendary hip-hop recording artist and rapper B-Real from Cypress Hill can get their hands on his debut flower line, Insane OG, at Dr. Greenthumb’s and Cookies dispensaries throughout California.
A play on the group’s hit track, “Insane in the Membrane,” and B-Real’s favorite strain, OG Kush, Insane OG was said to be inspired by the 90s and 00s culture where the real cannabis advocates were being locked up fighting for legalization.
In a recent interview with Addison Herron-Wheeler from High Times, she spoke with B-Real about his goals for Insane OG, his advocacy efforts, and the new line’s significance.
When explaining the mindset of the late 90s early 00s, B-Real mentioned, “those [were] the days when we talked about weed being legal, like really legal, across the country and just not even really believing it was gonna happen.”

From harsh sentencing to the inclusive cannabis community, the rapper explained that when someone new enters the scene, “you teach them the culture, you share what’s important. I think that’s what I’m trying to do here. I want to point out what’s important in our history and our culture.”
B-Real later expressed that Insane OG “is the future of legacy cannabis.” Instead of choosing similar strains and a set of distinct products geared towards one specific outcome, B-Real wanted to offer something a little more inclusive and experimental.
“I’m not trying to be the one voice telling people what they should like or what cannabis should be. I’m more like trying to provide the open-mic night, the forum and the stage, so these guys, and gals, can show the world how they are holding it down,” he tells High Times.

The end goal for Insane OG is to continue maintaining the core essence and heart of the industry. “I want the heart to still be there; I want us to be happy we won, that we got weed legalized.”
B-Real says the last thing he wants is “us wishing we had just kept it illegal because we all lost. Fuck that.”
In his concluding words, the Cypress Hill rapper explained how “Cannabis has always been there. I never felt there was anything wrong with it,” even though the government was well against his and other advocates’ side that it should be legal.
“I try to lend my voice where I can. I’ve never been afraid to be open about it. I just try to keep the topic in front of people, do my best to support the culture.”
