ESPN’s Salvador Rodrigues officially reported that super-flyweight rivals Juan Franciso Estrada and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez are close to finalizing negotiations for the Oct. 16 fight.
Back in March, we witnessed one of the best fights of 2021 with WBC super flyweight champion Estrada (42-3, 28 KO) and prior WBA champion Gonzalez (50-3, 41 KO), throwing combined total punches at 2,529.
Interestingly, like many close fights, Estrada took home dub after a split decision was made on scores of 115-113 and 117-111. In a close call decision, many feel that Estrada wasn’t the rightful winner and fell short, but judges still decided to grant him the victory.
Following this, the WBC demanded an immediate rematch; they also ordered another match between mandatory challenger Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Carlos Cuadras to decide who’s next in line.
Whether Estrada or Chocolatito reigns victorious, the winner will be facing off against Joshua Franco at a later date.
The moment we have been waiting for.
