Does 50 Cent smoke weed? It’s a fair question. The guy made a whole song called “High All the Time” and came up rapping about that drug dealer life in Queens. But Curtis Jackson has been pretty upfront over the years: he’s not really about the smoke.

While most rappers in hip hop openly embrace marijuana, 50 has taken a different path, and his reasoning makes a lot of sense once you hear why.

Here’s everything you need to know about 50 Cent’s complicated relationship with weed, including a certain Snoop Dogg incident that might make you giggle.

Let’s take a closer look at what 50 Cent has publicly said about weed over his career.

This Piers Morgan interview is probably the most detailed look at 50’s stance on weed and drugs. When Piers asked how many drugs he’d taken, 50 responded bluntly: “I don’t actually use drugs.“

This surprised a lot of people. Here’s a guy who came up in hip hop culture talking about selling drugs on the corner, dropping bars about being high, and building his whole Get Rich or Die Tryin’ image around street life. But the reality? 50 saw too many friends and family members ruin their lives.

“I got a chance to watch a lot of my mother’s sisters and brothers at different periods experiment with the use of drugs or alcohol, and I see them respond so differently that I stay away,” he told Piers Morgan.

He also admitted he had a bad experience with weed at some point that scared him off the plant: “I’ve had an experience that made me paranoid because of it, and I stayed away from it following that.“

50 Cent has explained that growing up, he saw the choice as pretty simple—you could spend that $5 or $10 on weed to smoke, or you could put it in your pocket. For a kid hustling in South Jamaica, Queens, the money made more sense.

What’s ironic is that 50 was once a drug dealer himself. But he never got high on his own supply, so to speak. He was making money, watching what drugs and alcohol did to the people around him, and decided early on that the lifestyle wasn’t for him.

So the same guy who wrote a 50 Cent weed song about being high all the time? That’s not entirely true. But realistically, 50 Cent has smoked weed before. He’s done it with Snoop Dogg, of all people. Because when Snoop passes you a blunt, you don’t exactly say no.

In 2019, Snoop Dogg threw his Tycoon Pool Party in New Jersey, and 50 Cent was there. At some point during the party, Snoop passed 50 a joint.

Now imagine being 50 in that moment. You’ve built this whole sober image. You’ve got your Branson Cognac business to think about. But Snoop Dogg—the god of weed himself, a guy who once employed a personal blunt roller—is offering you a hit. Everybody’s watching. What do you do?

50 took the hit.

The whole thing was captured on video, and 50 posted it to Instagram with the caption: “@snoopdogg made me smoke. Damn now I got a drug problem. LOL”

Obviously, he was joking. But it does show that 50 will partake on rare occasions when the social pressure is right. He later described the moment, saying everyone around them started cheering for him to hit it. Not wanting to kill the mood, he gave in. Smoking with Snoop Dogg is basically the only time peer pressure might be acceptable.

But he also clarified that he just let the smoke swirl around in his mouth before blowing it out. “Bill Clinton has probably inhaled more weed smoke than me,” he joked.

Vanity Fair sat 50 down for their infamous lie detector test in 2021, and the interviewer went straight for the music. She brought up “High All the Time” and pointed out that he doesn’t actually smoke weed.

“Do you always lie in your songs?” she asked.

50’s response was perfect: “Well, I was high all the time, but everybody else was smoking around me.”

That’s honestly a great line. He wasn’t lying—he was surrounded by people getting blazed constantly. He just wasn’t partaking.

Then came the Snoop Dogg questions. The interviewer asked if it was true he’d asked Snoop to stop smoking marijuana on the set of BMF (50’s show on Starz where Snoop played a pastor).

“Yeah,” 50 confirmed.

Did Snoop listen? Absolutely not. Snoop’s response was basically “Get outta here, man. It’s legal 50! It’s legal!”

50 Cent later told Jimmy Kimmel the same story, saying Snoop was “really conflicted” when 50 asked him to chill. “He was like, ‘Why you wanna mess up my day?'”

When asked if anyone smokes more weed than Snoop, 50 didn’t hesitate: “Wiz Khalifa.”

Fair point. Though some would argue Willie Nelson deserves that crown too—and honestly, even Snoop has admitted Willie outsmoked him once.

Here’s my take based on everything we know:

50 Cent almost certainly does not smoke weed regularly in 2025. He has been consistent about this for over a decade. He’s built a whole business empire—TV shows, his production company G-Unit Film & Television, liquor brands, and real estate deals. He’s focused on making money moves, not rolling up.

His reasons make sense, too. He saw what drugs and alcohol did to his family. He had a bad first blunt experience that freaked him out. And at this point, staying clear-headed is just part of his brand.

That said, does he occasionally take a hit when Snoop Dogg or someone else pressures him at a party? Maybe. The 2019 video proves he’ll do it under the right circumstances. But these seem to be rare social exceptions, not a habit.

Compared to artists like Snoop, Wiz Khalifa, and even rappers like Lil Wayne and Mos Def, who are open about their love of the plant, 50 Cent stands out as one of the few major hip-hop figures who genuinely doesn’t partake.

It’s pretty cool when you think about it. Here’s a guy who came up as a drug dealer, survived getting shot nine times, made songs about smoking weed, and he’s basically been sober this whole time. But if you’re looking for a celebrity weed ambassador, 50 ain’t your guy.
