Come one, come all, to the first-ever Cannabis Science Fair. PRNewswire reports that local cannabis testing leader MCR labs are partnering with the Cannabis Center of Excellence and Innovate@BU to host the new event.

The Cannabis Science Fair will showcase the extensive work of institutions that aim to increase our understanding of cannabis through research and analytical practices. The event is free and open to anyone interested. The Cannabis Science Fair will feature poster presentations from commercial and academic institutions like SCIEX, Skell Labs, the University of Vermont, Harvard University, and more.

Dr. Peter Grinspoon, Harvard Medical School, and MGH Primary Care Physician will give a keynote speech regarding the importance of expanding cannabis research. We should expect to hear other experts and researchers address similar initiatives throughout the event’s big debut.

Michael Kahn, MCR Labs founder, and CEO says that research restrictions continue to set boundaries to the conclusions we can make about cannabis, so the goal with this event is to “inform the public with data and evidence-based insights,” reports PRNewswire.

He continued that promoting and supporting current research efforts will help remove the stigma around cannabis by emphasizing the vital and “credible work being done to expand our understanding of the plant’s potential.”

MCR Labs is known for providing product compliance testing to licensed cannabis producers. That said, developing and driving research efforts are a critical aspect of the company’s overall mission.

BioMérieux, Bio-Rad, and SCIEX sponsor the event, and all proceeds generated from said analytical testing sponsors will go towards funding future research and advocacy initiatives led by the Cannabis Center of Excellence. Other donations accepted at the event will go towards the same research initiatives conducted by MCR Labs’ community partner for the new Cannabis Science Fair.

Marion McNabb, founder and president of the Cannabis Center Of Excellence, says the new Cannabis Science Fair isn’t exactly “surprising,” but the center is “thrilled” with the level of interest shown by businesses and researchers to create an event focussed on cannabis for the purpose of “higher education,” reports PRNewswire.

She continued to explain her excitement to showcase and shed light on the latest in cannabis science through the many “abstracts and innovation submissions.”

The Cannabis Science Fair will be at the Boston University BUild Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center on Saturday, Dec. 11. The doors open at 1:00 pm and will close at 5:00 pm.
