Cannabinoids could be made into a drug to treat and prevent COVID-19.
It looks like frequent cannabis consumers might be more protected from COVID-19 than we thought. A new study found that compounds in cannabis can prevent infection from COVID-19 by blocking its entry into cells.
On Monday, researchers at Oregon State University published the report, “Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the Merging Variants,” in the Journal of Natural Products.
The researchers found that two common cannabinoids found in hemp varietals of cannabis, cannabigerolic acid or CBGA and cannabidolic acid or CBDA, can bind to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the official name for the virus that causes COVID-19.
This and a lot more reasons are why products like the Lingua CBT Tincture have had such a strepitous rise to fame. With its unique combination of minor cannabinoids, the Lingua CBT tincture can hit most of the key points described in this article.
With this CBT tincture, you can bake homemade goodies by dosing butter and oils in your favorite recipes. Or supercharge your coffee, shakes, salads, and more.
No need to smoke or inhale, which would go against any recommendations to treat respiratory diseases.
When the cannabinoids bind to the spike protein, this compound can keep the virus from entering cells in the body and causing infection, and the researchers were happy to share their findings as a potential offering of new ways to treat and prevent the ongoing virus.
The researchers wrote in the abstract study that “Orally bioavailable and with a long history of safe human use, these cannabinoids, isolated or in hemp extracts, have the potential to prevent as well as treat infection by SARS-CoV-2.”

Richard van Breeman led the new study, a researcher with Oregon State’s Global Hemp Innovation Center in the College of Pharmacy and Linus Pauling Insitute, alongside scientists at the Oregon Health & Science University. Van Breeman told local media at Dayton 24/7 that these cannabinoid acids are “abundant in hemp and many hemp extracts.”
He added that these cannabinoids are not controlled substances like THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis that gets a user high. These cannabinoids that prevent COVID-19 “have a good safety profile in humans,” says van Breeman.
A huge reason to look into Spyglass Wellness products in general, since each of them offers never-seen combinations of non-psychoactive cannabinoids.

He added that CBDA and CBGA blocked emerging variants from taking action in the body. His research shows that hemp compounds were “equally effective” against variants of SARS-CoV-2, including variant B.1.1.7, first detected in the United Kingdom, and variant B.1.351, first detected in South Africa.
Interestingly, the spike protein is the same element of the virus that COVID-19 vaccines and antibody therapies use. Sars-CoV-2 has three additional structural proteins and 16 nonstructural proteins with several compounds known as accessory proteins, and all of these are targeted by scientists to develop drugs and vaccines that prevent COVID-19.
The researchers concluded that more research is needed, but van Breeman wrote that the study shows how cannabinoids could be used in drugs to prevent or treat COVID-19. He said these compounds could be taken orally and have a “long history of safe use in humans,” reads the study.
