For the last three years, Woody Faircloth and his 9-year-old daughter Luna have been taking trips from Colorado to California to deliver RVs to families who’ve lost their homes to wildfires.

Their mission began after witnessing the fatal 2018 Camp Fire. Faircloth told CBS Mornings that he turned to his daughter, who was six a the time, and said, “Why don’t we get an RV and drive it to California and give it to a family so they’ll have a place to call home for Thanksgiving?”

At the time, Faircloth was looking for individuals to donate RVs they didn’t use anymore, and he was amazed by how many people wanted to help with the cause and donate their unwanted motor homes.

Faircloth added that he has volunteers all over the country, and he has people dedicated to “answering emails and processing paperwork for these donations.”

To date, Faircloth and Luna have personally delivered 20 RVs to those in need, so it’s safe to say they’re getting used to life on the road. They’ve mostly delivered motor homes to the families of firefighters, first responders, and veterans, and now, the duo has helped arrange nearly 100 donations.

Faircloth said this was a prime opportunity to help teach his daughter about the importance of giving and selflessness. On their trips to California, they’re constantly reminded of the damage done by these fires, which helped them develop a stronger bond.

On one of their trips from Denver to Redding, California, CBS News joined the father-daughter duo to get the inside scoop. This trip was to deliver a new home to a firefighter named Don George, who tragically lost everything when his home was caught in the Fawn Fire flames this past September when he was putting out fires on other homes.

George told CBS News that he felt a need to check in on his house, but it was already too late. George’s son didn’t know how to break the news or verbalize that their beloved home, the memories, and everything inside were gone. George has been fighting fires for 50 years, and he was used to being the hero until the Faircloths stepped in.

The duo not only gave George an RV but a second motor home for his adult sons to have their own home. “You couldn’t ask for a better man,” George told CBS News. “He came just exactly at the right time for me, renewed my faith in mankind.”
