Nevada recently legalized marijuana consumption lounges, but the state has yet to open said businesses due to undetermined rules and regulations.
Owner of Nevada Wellness Center Frank Hawkins said to 8 News Now, “We were the first dispensary to open in Las Vegas. This is the consumption lounge that has been ready for about two years.” Hawkins explained that he can’t open the lounge “until regulation has been created by the new CCB.”
To get more information on when lounges might open, 8 News Now interviewed the executive director of the CCB, Tyler Klimas, who said that “If everything goes well we will probably see the first consumption lounges open up mid-year next year so mid-year 2022.”
When expanding on the board’s forthcoming rules and regulations required for public lounges, he said, “A lot of it has to do with the licensing and the application of consumption lounges.”
Dispensaries who want to open a consumption lounge can apply for a non-refundable fee of $100,000, while the BBC will select twenty independent lounges for a smaller, undetermined fee.
“Half of those independent lounges, per the legislation, will be held and awarded to social equity applicants, further increasing the inclusiveness and the diversity of this industry,” Klimas explained. “Then you will come in front of the board, and you will address the board, and the board will deem you suitable or suitable to open a license.”
