Why We Can’t Live In A World Where The McDonald’s Ice Cream Machine Is Always Working

Wouldn't it be nice to show up to McDonald's for a McFlurry without the lingering fear that their ice cream machine might be broken?

Just when you thought your day couldn’t get any worse, your local McDonald’s ice cream machine stopped working. This frustrating phenomenon always seems to leave customers questioning; “Why can’t I just get my damn McFlurry?”

From apps that track McDonald’s locations reported broken ice cream machines to the fast-food giant pledging to fix the issue with a so-called “task force,” we’ve decided to get right down to the point and ask why it happens in the first place.

Jack McDermott, aka PieFace, a streamer, and former Big Brother UK participant, shared incredibly informative insights on why the machine is always broken during the Happy Hour Podcast.

To put it simply, he stated, “It’s a pretty simple reason, and that’s that they are so expensive they will only buy one per store, but because it gets so much use, it just overheats. So that’s why they have to stop serving them because it just overheats.”

He continued, “So when it’s too popular, they need to allow more time for it to freeze down. It comes out like slush. If they had two machines, it would solve that, but it’s just the McDonald’s way.”

Not only that, but the ice cream machine supplier Taylor Company earns about 25% of its annual revenue from fixing the McDonald’s ice cream machines alone. The service calls for technicians at Taylor Company are wildly expensive, so the McDonald’s machines usually stay broken until customers make a frequent and big enough deal to push the staff to fix it.
