Just as promised, Nine Inch Nails will be releasing a new album before the year comes to a close. After a three-year hiatus spent creating soundtracks to David Fincher’s Gone Girl and Peter Berg’s upcoming Patriots Day, Nine Inch Nails will return with new music in 2016.
A new Nine Inch Nails album with a bonus retooling
Fans were getting nervous because the year is almost over and up until a week ago, no announcements had been made. But a recent interview with Rolling Stone addressed everything that their fans wanted to hear.
When asked directly if a new Nine Inch Nails album was still in the cards, Trent Reznor told the magazine, “Just wait and see what happens.” And shortly after, the big announcement was made.
Not only will NIN bring new music to the scene before the year ends, but a bonus 4XLP retooled vinyl from 1999 is in the works.
Not the Actual Events
The Fragile was arguably one of NIN best albums and the 2016 reincarnation will bring 37 bonus tracks and an hour of unreleased music.
The Fragile occupies a very interesting and intimate place in my heart. I was going through a turbulent time in my life when making it and revisiting it has become a form of therapy for me. As an experiment, I removed all the vocals from the record and found it became a truly changed experience that worked on a different yet compelling level.
The Fragile: Deviations 1 represents Atticus and I embellishing the original record with a number of tracks from those sessions we didn’t use before. The result paints a complimentary but different picture we wanted to share. – Trent Reznor
Although the new NIN EP only has five new songs, Reznor believes it was the perfect length to tell his story. The band says the new music will be quite different from their latest movie soundtracks and other recent endeavors.
Titled Not the Actual Events, Nine Inch Nails will release their album on December 23rd.
It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.
