According to crowd counting experts, the Women’s March in Washington was roughly three times the size of the audience at President Trump’s inauguration. DC’s deputy mayor for public safety and justice said roughly 500,000 people attended the Women’s March in DC on Saturday.

Marcel Altenburg and Keith Still, crowd scientists at Manchester Metropolitan University in Britain, analyzed photographs and video taken of the National Mall and vicinity and estimated that there were about 160,000 people in those areas in the hour leading up to Mr. Trump’s speech Friday.

They estimated that at around 500,000 people were at the women’s march in Washington in the areas on and near the mall at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Power to the people

According to a Twitter post made by Metro officials, many stations experienced such a high volume of people that it left them at capacity. In fact, around 11 a.m. on Saturday, officials say that people took 275,000 Metro rides alone.

To put another way, that’s more than eight times a typical Saturday and even busier than the regular weekday crowd. But when it came to Friday’s inauguration, the stations were practically empty.

According to many DC attendees, it took over an hour just to hop on the Metro from multiple locations. In fact, people were even handing out granola and water during the long wait.

For those that couldn’t make it onto a Metro, they instead turned to Uber. In like manner of Metro, Uber saw a lot of business that day. Nearly 5x surge pricing, to be exact.

Indeed, Uber drivers say they were picking up a lot more pussy hat wearing women than they were people who planned to attend the inauguration,

We all thought we’d be picking up people for the Inauguration. But instead all we’ve done is pick up groups of women.

Despite the massive turnout, the march remained peaceful with zero arrests. Not only were attendees cooperative and non-violent, but the police were also kind and helpful. All in all, the movement brought people together, which is what everyone wants right now.

A march that took over the world

The Women’s March was so vast and influential and extended far past Washington. Not only were people marching in New York City, but also Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Paul, Minnesota, Atlanta, and overseas in London, Australia, New Zealand and more.

New York City, in particular, had about 400,000 people marching, which is almost as many as Washington. Then, 250,000 marched in Chicago, roughly 100,000 marched in Los Angeles, more than 90,000 marched in St. Paul and 60,000 in Atlanta.
