The Six Best, Freshest And Most Authentic Ramen Shops In Montreal

The six best ramen shops in Montreal.

Bonjour Montreal, we’re hoping to make your dinner just a little easier with help from our favorite ramen shops in the city. Whether you’re looking for the utmost authentic ramen or other savory dishes like curry, these places are your best bet. Without further ado, here are the six freshest and best ramen shops across Montreal.

Ramen Nakamichi

Located in the central Mile End location that was once home to Thazard, the new ramen spot Nakamichi offers both takeout and delivery. The restaurant is known for its creamy tonkatsu broth, onigiri rice balls, salmon, tuna, and tomato and dill starters.

Address: 5329 Boul. St-Laurent.

Umami

Umami made its grand debut last year and has since landed in the hearts of Montrealers who aim to eat a healthy plant-based diet; Umami makes its noodles and tofu in-house from organic local grains and beans. A top pick from their menu is definitely the shoyu (soy-based) ramen broth with yuba (bean curd skin) as a substitute for pork belly.

Address: 6660 Rue Clark.

Imadake Izakaya

Owner Kevin Fung is known for his creative culinary techniques. Before opening Imadake Izakaya, he was cooking up top soups, salads, and fried and grilled dishes around Montreal. Imadake Izakaya is known for its loud and enthusiastic crowd that bangs their fists on the table while chanting “sake bomb” to set an exciting mood. Our favorite dish was the ramen topped with rare beef steak.

Address: 4006 rue Sainte-Catherine O.

Ichifuku

One of Montreal’s most meticulous ramen shops, Ichifuku, makes their noodles with a machine imported from the motherland and uses soft water to balance their noodles’ and soups’ pH. The restaurant’s salt is also harvested from seawater mineral beds alongside their variety of broths that are equally as delicious. They also offer frozen ramen to take home.

Address: 1925 Sainte-Catherine O.

Ramen Ya

Ramen Ya has a different kind of reputation, one that’s more quiet, intimate, and cozy, perfect for a relaxing Sunday evening dinner. Ramen Ya’s authentic ramen has even landed compliments from La Presse critic Marie-Claude Lortie who dubbed the restaurant a pioneer in Montreal.

Address: 4274 Boul. Saint-Laurent.

Bistro Otto

Some top picks are definitely the flavorful ramen broth made with chicken and duck stock, not to mention their curries and chirashi.
