In a plot twist that seems straight out of an episode of Black Mirror, life can now be lived to the fullest without ever having to leave your home. When you get too high to go outside you can just call a “Human Uber.” Select All reported researcher Jun Rekimoto recently unveiled the new technology, called the “ChameleonMask,” which.allows you to attend an event or obligation using someone else’s body. The mask is worn by a “surrogate,” or another real human, and projects the face and voice of someone located remotely.

Telepresence is nothing new. In the past, surrogates have been mounted to remote-controlled robots. The idea is that by enlisting another real human to take the place of the robot, the encounter will seem more realistic for the people interacting with the device. But for now, it seems this technology still has a long way to go before it fools anyone. Unless, of course, the people interacting with the digital you are real stoned too.
