A diverse cannabis industry is a happy cannabis industry.

Those looking to support Black-owned and led weed businesses are in for a treat. The newest addition to cannabis retail is none other than the queen of bounce music, Big Freedia.

She’s happy to announce the recent launch of her very own cannabis brand, Royal Bud. “When people smoke Royal Bud, they’re smoking what I smoke,” Big Freedia mentioned in a statement.

She added that the brand was influenced by;

• Black culture
• Bounce culture
• Queer culture
• Cannabis culture

She hopes the brand will help individuals celebrate “the diverse movements making popular culture what it is today.”

The first three strains to drop from Royal Bud are;

• Release Ya Wiggle (Hybrid)
• You Already Know (Indica)
• Mardi Grass (Sativa)

The strains will first launch in jars of eighths. Currently, Royal Bud is looking to expand its product selection and distribution with;

• Infused goods
• New and carefully curated, hand-selected partnerships
• Terpene-packed strains

The first batch of products from Royal Bud met the market this past week on August 22 with an exclusive launch at the queer-led social-equity-licensed dispensary in DTLA, Green Qween.

A portion of the proceeds from Royal Bud sales at Green Qween will go towards developing the upcoming DTLA Proud Community Center.

Andrés Rigal, the co-founder of Green Qween, says the cannabis industry needs more entrepreneurs like Big Freedia representing the QTBIPOC community.

Rigal explained how the current industry is packed with white cisgender straight males and male-led brands. For that reason, working with Big Freedia and Royal Bud is an honor, one that helps provide another option for those customers who wish to support QTBIPOC entrepreneurs.

This Friday, August 26, you can get a chance to meet Big Freedia at Green Qween (1051 S Broadway, Los Angeles) from 6-8 p.m. PST.

This weekend on August 28, you can catch a 30-minute Big Freedia set by obtaining a ticket with the purchase of any Royal Bud product at Green Qween. The set will take place in Grand Park across from City Hall.
