I wanted to love it, but it just hasn’t lived up to the hype
Ordering from POTV is always awesome. The shipping was super fast, and the freebies are nice. POTV is 5 stars, but this vape is only 2 stars.
Here’s how I’d compare the V3 to the V2:
Pros:
- Beautiful display with haptics.
- Square shape so it doesn’t roll away.
- Tastes as good as the v2.
- Plastic stock mouthpiece is nicer than V2. silicone mouthpiece (but glass is WAY nicer).
- Outstanding battery life.
- Fast charging, USB-C.
- POTV1 capsules fit the chamber.
- Mouthpiece doesn’t pop off easily.
Cons:
- Bowl is 1/2 the size of the V2 chamber.
- Bowl is barely enough for one person’s single session, and not enough if you’re a heavy smoker. Sharing with a partner is a chore (refilling once or twice in one sesh).
- You must take very long slow (10 Second) hits to get a noticeable hit, which is difficult and unpleasant for me. I prefer to take smaller shorter hits.
- One bowl is spent before the 4 minutes is up, so I don’t understand why there’s an option to change it to 6 minutes.
- I have to run it at the highest temp than the v2 to get any vapor, and it’s very little vapor.
- Capsules make it easier to change, but that’s just one more handful of very tiny parts to keep track of and keep clean; not good if you have dexterity issues.
- Swapping capsules or refilling the chamber mid-session will burn your fingers if you’re not extremely careful.
- Mouthpiece assembly is complex, making it really difficult to clean.
I honestly wouldn’t call this an upgrade. These are like apples and oranges. I think it’s overpriced for what it does. The display makes it look modern and expensive but the actual functionality makes this a $50-60 vape.
The V2 is a solid vape. I’ve used it daily for years and it’s still plugging away like a champ. I even bought a 2nd to have a spare and keep them in different rooms. The quirks I don’t like about the v2 (mouthpiece pops off easy, not enough temperature control, it always rolls off tables/desks, battery only lasts 3-5 sessions) are nonexistent with the v3, but the v3 introduced its own problems that don’t outweigh the improvements. The v3 just not that much fun.
I was hoping for something I could sit outside with, or keep in my pocket for on-the-go/camping/etc, but this isn’t it. It’s way too much work to fill/store/swap capsules, and I spend more time preparing to use it and refilling it than I spend actually enjoying it.
I’m going to keep it because it’s past my return date, and the display really is quite pretty so I’ll probably use that if I want to play with buttons and a pretty display. Im calling it my “one-hitter,” and the v2 is still my daily vape.
If you’re looking for form, get the v3. If you’re looking for function, get the v2.
Had **** hopes but...
Wanted to love it but I actually prefer my Starry. This vape works okay with the dosing cups but my Starry is better for me on the go or at home. I was looking forward to how much better convection was supposed to be but side by side the Starry is still my go to. Dead simple and it works! Nice hits and effective 👍 This one takes more fiddling about to get it going and I'm getting better taste out of my Starry.
good ideas, poor execution
cons:
- silicone gasket is just a smidge too long to use with the dosing capsules, causing the oven to sit slightly ajar when in use. this makes the mouthpiece wobbly, for one thing, but also allows too much heat to escape to the metal housing of the device, causing it to get so hot you'll need gloves to handle it about halfway through a session. Vape quality is also affected, as it's nearly impossible not to get some air mixed in that hasn't gone through the oven. This problem exists with older POTV capsules as well as the one that comes with the vape, but it's more pronounced with the new one.
- temperature buttons are too small and too close together. 2 months into using it daily, and I'm still constantly switching modes by mistake when trying to adjust temp. Their location at the very bottom of the front panel is also inconvenient, as it makes adjusting temp one-handed more tricky than it needs to be, unless you've got a particularly adroit pinky.
- the magnetic closures are unshielded, allowing the magnetic field to spill out of the device and pick up unwanted items such as paperclips, tweezers, *** tools, specks of iron dust, whatever you've got that's small and ferrous. Definitely never take this vape to a beach, or set it on an external hard drive, or have it in your jacket pocket while doing any kind of metal working...
- clearly designed to be set in a charging dock that, to the best of my knowledge, you'll have to make yourself. The charging port is on the bottom, so without a dock, you'll have to lay it on it's side to charge... which is probably what you'll want to do with it most of the time anyways, as it's a little too top-heavy and narrow to safely be left standing anyways. I don't like how it sits on it's side, though, either, as that's where the intake vents are, and I don't love the thought of any small particulate on my desk or w/e getting mashed into the vent holes every time I set it down (happened with my POTV one). resting it on it's back would be best, except that the back is curved, and the charge port is at the front of the bottom face, causing the weight of the charging cable to tip it immediately onto it's side. Really, making a cradle is the only option, imo, especially if you're using the bubbler attachment.
- the filter could be better designed. currently, most of the tar/*****/***/whatever condenses out of the vapor as it makes the sharp turn between end of the metal filter and the start of the glass attachment. It then pools on the silicone lip between the two until it reaches where the silicone and metal parts meet, at which point the heat at operational temperatures lend it the viscosity required to seep down around the outside of the metal filter. because there is nothing there to catch it or stop it from egressing back down into the oven from there. This is when you need to clean the filter, lest the flavor of your vape and ease of cleaning be heavily impacted; in my experience, it only takes between 5 and 10 sessions to reach this point, depending on the qualities of your herb. If the metal filter just had a 2nd outer-wall, creating a small, U-shaped reservoir under that silicone lip, one could probably go 20-30 sessions between cleanings, and the cleaning process would not be much different, requiring only a larger quantity of isopropyl for a little more time, and occasionally scraping the char off the screen with the back of the included cleaning pick.
pros:
- looks nice
- heats fast
- big battery
Simply don’t work correctly
This was my first vape, and after doing tons of research, I landed on purchasing either this Xmax or the POTV ONE vape. I decided to go with the Xmax and I regret buying this vape because it simply doesn’t work!
When you first receive your vape, it is set to session mode. Now, this may sound crazy but after one whole session, there was absolutely no vape at all! Started up again and pulled the whole session and finally got a little vapor after about 3 mins. I thought the material I was using wasn’t dry enough because…it can’t be the vape…right? WRONG!!….I used some of the driest herbs I had available from my last harvest (last year October) and again, nothing on the first session and a little vape on the second.
Okay, maybe the temp isn’t set correctly…right?? Well, I tried on literally all temp settings and they’re all the same!! I honestly don’t believe the Xmax is operating on the same temp shown on the device! There’s no way!!! You can’t taste or see anything different but after starting a couple of sessions, the vape itself gets hot (very hot) just to get a small amount of vape after 7/8 mins. Horrible!!!
I don’t know if I have a defective product, but after scrolling through a couple of comments a lot of people with having the same issue I’m having! Don’t get me wrong, The shipping is rapid fast and the vape is well packaged but all of that doesn’t mean anything if the vape doesn’t work and you’re wasting almost 100+ bucks!! (I actually bought more capsules). The only thing I like about this package I received is the storage container. The storage container is the truth! Love it! But I wish I could say the same thing about this vape.
I was really excited about my purchase just to be disappointed. I wish I would’ve gone with my gut feeling and just bought the ONE. I hear good things about that unit and how it works the way it should works. The Xmax needs to be recalled or improved because this is technically false advertising (or I just received a defective vape).
I would not recommend this vape to anyone due to so many problems, and issues, and just not working correctly. Again, I wish I would’ve gone with the ONE smh and I recommend if you’re reading this comment to DONT BUY THIS VAPE! Get their One vape! I wish I could exchange this vape for the One OR a replacement vape that actually works because I feel like I just lost $100 bucks and I wouldn’t want anyone else losing their hard-earned money as well.
Pros: fast shipping, packaging, storage container, looks amazing!
Con: takes two sessions @ max temperature to receive a small amount of vapor, gets scary hot, and doesn’t work…..
I can’t stress this enough: do yourself a favor and buy the ONE!!! Thank me later…..
Buyers remorse in 6 months
Bought for my wife in December 22 to upgrade her previous arizer. I tested it and it was ok so i got her an extra battery. Not the greatest from my 8 years of vaporizer experience but easy to use with replaceable batteries. 6 months later she comes to me saying she can't get a hit anymore. I tried and I agreed. Don't know what it is but it's getting hot to the touch but produces no vapor. I transferred the herb to my dynavap and it good with lots of vapor production. Almost seems like something came loose airpath wise in the V3pro. Super disappointed about thd situation. Time for her to adapt to the dynavap anyway. What's the warranty on the v3?
Little vapor
It’s probably a good device, I just discovered dry ****** vaping, does not seem to work for me. Can’t get the hang of it. Good enough to get a good hit. Gonna try the Mighty + next.
Poorly Designed
The vape does work as advertised, but the design and ergonomics of this vape is awful. The accessory attachment/lid constantly falls off my device while it's in my pocket spilling my herbs in my pocket. It pops off while sitting, walking or when I try to take it out of my pocket. The magnet used in the device is cheap and weak. To prevent my herbs from spilling in my pocket, I used the dosing capsule, but I lost it when out and about due to the issue of the lid/accessory attachment, and it popped out somewhere while I was on a busy sidewalk. I couldn't find it on the sidewalk or the road. The up and down buttons are tiny and way too close to each other. Half the time when I try to change the temperature with my skinny fingers, I accidentally press both the up and down buttons putting it into "on demand" mode. They need to be spread out the up/down buttons little more and/or maybe bigger buttons. It also doesn't charge the battery through the device despite claiming it can. I use an external battery charger, so it's not the biggest deal, but it'd be nice if I could charge the battery when out and about. So, while the device is portable it's not at the same time when pieces easily fall off of it. It's like there was minimal QA put into the the design of the device. Definitely wouldn't recommend this device
Bad battery
Very nice product, but the battery dies after every two uses or so for me.
Maybe Ok for a newbie!!!!
Meh... Maybe Ok for a newbie!!!!
But after using Storz & Bickel products (Mighty+ & Crafty+), this feels like a major downgrade.
If you can afford it, buy something from S&B, you won't regret it! If price point is of **** concern, this might be good for you though...
Filed a return in exchange for the Crafty+ I already ordered.
Xmax v3 Pro POTV
I really want to like this one but honestly, I’m disappointed with this vape…
It’s kind of too weak.. doesn’t produce enough vapor and overall, doesn’t do the job (for me!)
I have bought all kinds of accessories to pair with it but sadly it’s sitting on the shelf now
What can I say, it doesn’t fit my taste!?
🤷♂️
