These brands all share one common goal, to promote social equity and opportunities for underserved communities affected by the war on drugs.
In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to steer you in the right direction of our favorite Black-owned cannabis businesses making a significant impact on the industry. But, before we get to the abundance of brands making a difference, a recent initiative by a group of Black-owned social equity dispensaries will carry a special gift box from the Black Box Project this month.
Inside each gift box, which has a retail value of over $200, are top products from Black-owned brands like Ball Family Farms, Viola, House of Tyne, Justice Tree, Biko, and Wyllow. The set is only $49.50 and is available at the following dispensaries; Josephine & Billie’s, Gorilla RX, Sixty Four in Mid-City, and Sixty Four in Melrose.

Founder Terryn Niles Buxton has worked long and hard to ensure his brand creates top-quality small-scale products for cannabis consumers in California. The brand is well known for its extracts, obviously, but also the live resin, vapes, and cookie crumble concentrate that’s amassed a cult-like following throughout the state.

Military veterans Wanda James and Scott Durrah founded Simply Pure in Denver, which was impressively the very first Black-owned and woman-owned dispensary in the nation. Here you can find an array of vapes, flower, edibles, extracts, tinctures, and much more, all of which come from the company’s local farm.

High Times named Ardent’s founder and president Shanel A. Lindsay one of the 100 Most Influential People in Cannabis. This isn’t your usual cannabis brand, as Lindsay created a device called NOVA that allows consumers to decarboxylate their weed to make edibles. Ardent specializes in homemade infusion kits and edible-making tools.

The Hollingsworth family firmly believes in offering sustainably grown, processed, and packaged goods to its consumers. Based in Washington State, the company is run by two generations of the Hollingsworth family and sells cannabis-infused topical treatments, soaps, sanitizers, and more.

Opt for former NBA player Al Harrington’s cannabis brand Viola to awaken the athlete in you. Known as a brand for the culture, the team at Viola strives to merge cannabis with athletic and entertainment figures to further educate and promote the use of cannabis.
